Four-star running back from Quitman High School, Akylin Dear, is set to announce his commitment on Aug. 20. Dear had previously committed to the Ole Miss Rebels and will now choose between Alabama and Mississippi State.

Dear is currently ranked No. 38 overall in the country, as per On3 Industry Rankings, and is the second-best running back in the nation. He is also the third-best overall prospect from the state of Mississippi.

He spoke about his decision to commit and also shed light on his decommitment from the Rebels.

"I’ve been thinking about it for some time now and just have been contemplating on what’s best for me and my future," Dear told On3. "It’s always been a tough decision because you want to stay home and put on for your home state... At the end of the day, I had to do what was best for me and my family and what made me happy so that I don’t ever have any regrets."

3 teams vying for 4-star RB Akylin Dear

#3 Mississippi State

Mississippi State is one of the finalists to sign running back Akylin Dear. The Bulldogs extended an offer to the highly-touted prospect after he attended the Under Armour Combine last year.

Mississippi State's class of 2025 is currently ranked No. 35 in the nation, as per 247Sports. The Bulldogs have already landed 17 commitments and have extended 225 offers to some of the best high school players in the country.

#2 Ole Miss

Ole Miss Rebels have the second-best odds of landing the four-star running back, as per On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. The Mississippi native was committed to the Rebels but announced his decommitment in June this year.

The Rebels' class of 2025 is ranked No. 33 in the country, as per 247Sports. The program has acquired 14 hard commitments and extended 429 offers. Landing the Dear will boost their rankings and strengthen their roster further.

#1 Alabama

The Alabama Crimson Tide is leading the race to acquire Akylin Dear with an 86.7% chance of landing the 6-foot, 205-pound athlete, as per On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Dear spoke about the Crimson Tide after his June 21 official visit.

"Alabama has always shown me so much love, even after I committed. They’ve always told me and showed me that they want me," Akylin Dear told On3. "Coach Gillespie has come to my school several times, and that says a lot. Alabama is Alabama. They’re always going to be a top-tier school and a powerhouse."

Alabama's class of 2025 is ranked No. 2 in the country, as per 247Sports. The Crimson Tide have already landed 20 hard commitments and have extended 229 offers to some of the best high school athletes in the country.
