7 NFL stadiums hosting high school football championship games, ft. Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium
Most football players dream of performing in NFL stadiums. Over the years, many pro venues have hosted high school football games, giving young athletes the experience of a lifetime. Most often, those games are state championship games.
Here is a breakdown of the 7 most popular NFL stadiums and the games that will be held there
#1, AT&T Stadium, Dallas Cowboys
The retracted roof stadium in Arlington, Texas, is the home of the Dallas Cowboys. The stadium, which hosted the 2011 Super Bowl, is among the 11 venues set to host the FIFA World Cup 2026. From December 18-21, the stadium will host state championship games.
#2, Ford Field, Detroit Lions
Ford Field, a domed stadium that is home to the Lions, will host the Michigan High School Athletic Association championship games on Friday and Saturday.
In 2006 Ford Field hosted the Super Bowl in which the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 21-10.
The Lions hosted their first playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams on Jan. 14, winning 24-23, and then beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31–23 a week later.
#3, Gillette Stadium, New England Patriots
The multi-purpose stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, serves as the home stadium for the New England Patriots. The state championship games will be held from Dec. 4-6.
#4, Caesars Superdome, New Orleans Saints
Commonly known as the Superdome, it's located In the central business district of New Orleans and is the home stadium for the New Orleans Saints. From Dec. 12-14, it will host the Louisiana High School Athletic Association championship games. New Orleans, which has hosted 10 Super Bowls, with seven in the Superdome, will host its 11th Super Bowl in February. In 2005, the stadium provided shelter to thousands of people affected by Hurricane Katrina.
#5, Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis Colts
The multipurpose stadium in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, is the home of the Indianapolis Colts. It will host the Indiana High School Athletic Association title games on Friday and Saturday. The stadium hosted Super Bowl XLVI in 2012. This stadium hosted its first Colts' preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Aug. 24, 2008.
#6, U.S. Bank Stadium, Minnesota Vikings
The enclosed stadium in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, is home to the Minnesota Vikings. The venue hosted Super Bowl LII, which was won by the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 4, 2018; the ESPN X Games in July 2018; and the 2019 NCAA Final Four won by the Virginia Cavaliers. In 2023 the stadium was declared "the best venue" in the NFL by The Athletic.
#7, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta Falcons
The stadium in Atlanta is the home field of the Atlanta Falcons. Georgia's high school finals are scheduled for Dec. 16-18. It hosted Super Bowl LIII in 2019 and will host the 2025 College Football Playoff national championship game and multiple matches during the FIFA World Cup 2026.
