"Didn't work out": When Carmelo Anthony's Kiyan Anthony reflected on his short-lived diet experiment
Kiyan Anthony, son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, is a high school basketball standout, being a four-star recruit. However, in 2021, he was just a kid from New York, and he showed what his life was like back then with the Ballislife YouTube channel.
The younger Anthony revealed that he liked going to the deli and ordering bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches, which is not usually the most healthy choice for a young student-athlete like himself. That led to him being asked if he ever thought about going vegan, and this was his response:
"I tried it for a couple days," he said. "Didn't work out. (8:30-8:32)
He then showed off his order, which is considered a New York City staple that's ordered by many in the city's working class.
As for what his dad likes, Kiyan revealed that Carmelo likes to eat at delis too but prefers to eat healthy, including liking vegetables a lot more than his son.
"He likes the delis,n" Kiyan Anthony explained. "He's more like healthy like shakes and uh, smoothies and greens and stuff like that." (7:17-7:24)
Kiyan Anthony is now down to two schools, eliminating Auburn from contention and is choosing between USC in California and Syracuse in New York.
He plays for Long Island Lutheran and is ranked by the On3 Industry Ranking as the No. 35 recruit overall, as well as the No. 9 shooting guard and the No. 1 player in the state of New York.
Carmelo says he wants son Kiyan Anthony to develop his own game
After his trip to the deli, Kiyan Anthony went on to meet up with his dad at a basketball court to work out. There, the elder Anthony opened up about training his son and letting him develop his own game.
"I try to fine-tune the things that he can do and then we work on some of the things that he can't do, but I don't try to give him too much this early because I still want him to develop on his own and figure out what he want to do," said Carmelo regarding Kiyan Anthony's training. "I can't just give him my game. I got to let him develop his own game." (16:51-17:06)
Carmelo had been very active in training his own son, but Kiyan seems to have a different playing style than his dad.
