Moving to his sophomore year, he led the Cardinals to their first state tournament Division 1 semifinals. He averaged 18.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, and four assists that campaign.

In 2020, Johnson was selected for the Jordan Brand Classic, but the event was canceled due to the pandemic. During his High School basketball journey, he earned multiple accolades, including the Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year for 2018-19. Moreover, he earned the title of Wisconsin Associated Press Player of the Year.
In 2021, the Atlanta Hawks took Johnson in the first round of the NBA draft with the No. 20 pick and the future certainly looks bright for the talented forward.
Hawks extend Jalen Johnson's contract for $150 million
In October, the Hawks extended Johnson's contract for five years and $150 million, as reported by ESPN. In a press statement released by Hawks general manager Landry Fields, he praised the rising star:
"Jalen Johnson embodies the characteristics we look for as an organization, both on and off the court. He has shown continuous improvement each year and has the character and the work ethic to continue to grow his game. He has developed into a significant part of our team and we’re thrilled to continue his development in Atlanta."
In an interview with AJC, Johnson expressed his delight over his new deal:
"Honestly, I wouldn’t even have imagined this. “Like, there was a point in time, just in college, where the whole world was against me and all these narratives, and just me working every day to defeat those narratives, and just, show people who I really am, and I’ve done that up until this point, and it’s, it’s been great just to really see everything come about.”
Jalen Johnson flirts with a triple-double against the Cavaliers
On Friday, Jalen Johnson smashed 20 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Atlanta Hawks star was one rebound and three assists short of earning a triple-double.
Johnson was Atlanta's third top scorer in the game, after De'Andre Hunter and Trae Young. The Hawks won 117-101, reaching the knockout stages of the NBA Cup, and will harbor serious hopes of winning the competition.
