Michigan football recruiting 2025: Top 3 recruits who committed to Sherrone Moore this offseason ft. Ivan Taylor
The Michigan Wolverines were expected to take a step back since the departure of Jim Harbaugh. However, their new head coach, Sherrone Moore, hasn't let that happen as he has continued to build the team for the future.
Michigan had a top 25 class in the 2025 recruiting cycle before last weekend. However, the Wolverines secured a couple of massive commitments from top players such as Ivan Taylor and Andrew Olesh. It helped them jump a few spots in the rankings.
The Sherrone Moore-led is currently 11th and 4th in the Big Ten rankings. They have secured 15 commitments so far and have multiple top-100 recruits on the roster.
Let's take a look at the top three commits on the Michigan Wolverines' roster.
Michigan's top 3 recruits so far
#3. Nathaniel Marshall
Nathaniel Marshall from Fenwick High School is one of the best players in the nation. The 6-foot-4 defensive lineman visited Michigan earlier this year and announced his commitment to the program following the visit.
A lot of top schools were in the race to acquire the four-star recruit, including Alabama, Auburn, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas and USC. He spoke about his decision to sign with Sherrone Moore's side.
"I really like Michigan," Marshall said, as per On3. "I like how they utilize their defensive line and have their defensive ends play out of a two-point stance. I like playing out of a two-point stance because you’re able to visualize more. They’ve also produced a lot of great players."
The defensive lineman is ranked No. 54 nationally and is the fifth-ranked defensive lineman in the country. He is also the third-best overall prospect from the state of Illinois.
#2. Kainoa Winston
Kainoa Winston, the four-star recruit from Gonzaga High School, committed to the Michigan Wolverines on June 6.
Penn State, North Carolina and Oregon were in contention to acquire the 5-foot-10 safety. Winston talked about his official visit to the Wolverines in an interview with On3.
"The visit was good. I got to hang around the players and coaches more, just getting to bond and build relationships with them. My biggest takeaway from the visit was how genuine the people at Michigan are and the workhorse culture that has been established there," Winston said.
Winston is ranked as the 101st-best player nationally and the 10th-best safety in the country, per On3 Industry Rankings. He is the best recruit from his home state of Maryland.
#1. Ivan Taylor
Ivan Taylor is another four-star safety from Florida who announced his commitment to Michigan this month. The 6-foot-0.5 safety flipped his commitment from Notre Dame.
Taylor chose the Wolverines over Notre Dame and other schools such as Penn State and Ohio State. The Florida native spoke about the program and their coaching staff.
"I had a good time with all the coaches," Taylor said, as per On3. "Coach (LaMar) Morgan, Coach Wink (Martindale) and Coach (Sherrone) Moore all seemed like good, genuine people. Coach Moore has a good staff around him. Nobody has anything bad to say about Coach Moore because he’s a good guy and wants what’s best for the team."
Taylor is ranked as the No. 58 player nationally and is the 6th-best safety in the country, as per On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the eighth-best overall prospect from the state of Florida.
