2025 Class 3-star TE Logan Farrell flips his commitment from Mack Brown's UNC Tar Heels in favor of staying home
Arlington Heights (Illinois) Hersey High School standout Logan Farrell has flipped his college commitment from the University of North Carolina to the University of Illinois.
The tight end ranked No. 729 overall and No. 39 in his position for the 2025 recruiting class by the On3 Industry Ranking decided after a weekend visit to Illinois' Champaign campus.
Though Logan Farrell had pledged to the Tar Heels in November 2023, Illinois, the first Power Four school to offer him, always remained a key player in his recruitment. Farrell is regarded as the No. 17 senior football prospect in Illinois according to the Composite rankings, while 247Sports lists him as the No. 30 in-state player.
Nationally, he is the No. 36 tight end in the Composite rankings, and 247Sports clarifies his location as No. 61. The talented athlete has also accepted offers at other well-scored Power Four programs like Cincinnati, Duke, Louisville and Syracuse.
Unfortunately, Farrell's high school career has faced some setbacks. He tore his ACL in June during a 7-on-7 event and underwent surgery in July. Despite the injury, he had 29 receptions for 425 yards and nine touchdowns in his junior season.
His sophomore year was equally impressive, with 34 catches for 403 yards and 10 touchdowns. With this commitment flip, Farrell becomes the 15th pledge in Illinois' 2025 class under head coach Bret Bielema.
Logan Farrell's commitment flip strengthens Illinois’ offensive future for 2025
Illinois football continues to bolster its offensive future with the commitment of three-star tight end Logan Farrell. He joins Maroa-Forsyth's Grant Smith as the second in-state tight end to flip his commitment to the Illini this fall.
Smith had previously flipped from Illinois State in September, and both players add depth to a tight end room that has prioritized blocking. With Farrell and Smith on board, Illinois gains more dynamic pass-catching options.
Farrell's commitment enhances an already offensive 2025 recruiting class headlined by key playmakers like Mt. Zion wide receiver Brayden Trimble, St. Thomas Aquinas running back Cedric Wyche and Cardinal Ritter Prep quarterback Carson Boyd.
Trimble is ranked as Illinois’ No. 13 player and among the top 500 overall prospects, while Wyche and Boyd are ranked No. 51 at running back and No. 44 at quarterback, respectively.
Farrell is the 15th commit for Illinois’ 2025 class, and seven of those commits are offensive players. On the defensive side, Roseville (Michigan) safety Desmond Straughton leads the pack as the No. 14 player from Michigan.
Other notable commits include Blue Island athlete Andre Lovett, Ben Davis defensive lineman Isaiah White, Victor J. Andrew offensive lineman Michael McDonough, and Central Catholic athlete Jershaun Newton.
