2025 recruiting class adds 4-star Miami WR commit Malachi Toney after his reclassification: REPORTS

Malachi Toney, a standout wide receiver from Plantation American Heritage High School in Florida, has officially reclassified to the 2025 recruiting class. This decision follows his commitment to the University of Miami in August 2023, a choice made over top programs like Ohio State, Florida State and Auburn.

Toney is ranked the nation’s 25th-best wide receiver. In the 2024 season, he recorded 25 receptions, accumulating 391 yards and seven touchdowns early on. The receiver is listed as the No. 240 overall recruit in the 2026 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking.

He also ranks No. 45 among wide receivers and No. 38 in Florida. Toney committed to the Miami Hurricanes after observing the team’s electric offense and standout receiver play.

"Kevin Beard told me that’s what they were going to do, so that’s what I expected them to. He tells me what they do day in and day out, so that really wasn’t a surprise,” Toney told CaneSport.

Toney attended Miami’s commanding 56-9 victory over Florida A&M and was impressed by the team’s performance.

“It was a great game,” Toney said. They came out a bit slow in the first half, but they did their thing in the second half, and it was how it was supposed to be a blowout.”

Toney has accumulated 109 receptions for 1,785 yards and 23 touchdowns in his three years of varsity high school football.

Malachi Toney’s reclassification strengthens Miami’s 2025 recruiting class

It is a crucial point in Malachi Toney's sports career and Miami's flat recruitment plan with his choice of reclassifying to the 2025 recruitment class. He recorded 49 implants for 773 yards and eight touchdowns during his tenure as one of the underclassmen. Toney had an interesting freshman year where he had 35 catches for 621 yards and eight touchdowns.

His standout performances have caught the attention of powerhouse programs like Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State. Now the 22nd commit in Miami’s 2025 class, Toney is the sixth skill-position player on offense and joins a class featuring 11 offensive and 11 defensive commits.

Toney's presence adds to a Miami team aiming for a third straight top-10 recruiting class, with their 2025 group ranked 11th nationally. Toney joins a core of local prospects including Donta Simpson, Ezekiel Marcelin, Amari Wallace, Chris Ewald and Bryce Fitzgerald, enhancing Miami’s deep recruiting pool.
