2026 class five-star LB Tyler Atkinson to attend Georgia vs Clemson season opener in Atlanta
Five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson from Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia, is one of the most sought-after prospects in the 2026 recruiting class. With over 40 offers from top college programs, the blue-chip prospect is deciding where to play his college football.
As part of his decision-making process, Atkinson has locked in his plans to attend the season opener between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Clemson Tigers on Aug. 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The matchup will feature College Football Hall of Fame kicker Kevin Butler as an honorary captain, and Atkinson remains high on both of the programs.
"Both schools are high on my list. Excited to see them compete," Atkinson told Rivals.
The Bulldogs, who have a 3-1 record against the Tigers in previous matchups, are seen as the front-runners to land the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Atkinson's commitment. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the program holds a 32.2% chance of securing the Lawrenceville, Georgia, native's pledge.
Throughout the offseason, Atkinson has made visits to several college programs, including Auburn and Ohio State. He has visited OSU three times, most recently in March and June of this year, indicating a strong interest in the Buckeyes as well.
Tyler Atkinson shines in Grayson's thrilling season opener against Thompson High
Tyler Atkinson's Grayson High School secured a 15-14 overtime victory against Alabama's Thompson High. The game, which kicked off at 8 p.m., saw the linebacker all over the field.
Despite a slow start from the offense, Grayson's defense sealed the deal.
"Oh it was a good fight. Offense started off slow, the defense came and put up stops," Atkinson told AuburnUndercover. "And then offense finished the game and won it for us. The defense had a really good game, we won the day so that was a good first one."
Atkinson recorded seven solo tackles, six assists and capped off his night with a 13-yard sack, per AuburnUndercover.
"I worked on everything (in my game)," Atkinson said. "Everything I saw from my last year, everything that I know that can make me a better player I worked on it."
Atkinson was the only sophomore selected for the 2023 MaxPreps All-America team. His standout performance has already earned him offers from college programs, including Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Texas, among others.
Tyler Atkinson is ranked by On3 Industry Ranking as the No. 13 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 1 linebacker in the 2026 class and the No. 1 recruit in Georgia.
