2027 class ATH Cooper Witten confirms receiving offer from Josh Heupel's Tennessee
Four-star athlete Cooper Witten from Liberty Christian High School in Texas is gradually getting recognition from college programs. Oklahoma was the first to extend an offer to him on June 8, and since then, he has received several offers, three of which are from SEC schools.
Coach Josh Heupel's Tennessee also offered Witten on Friday for the Vols' 2027 class. The program does not have any commitments in the 2027 class.
"#AGTG After a great conversation with @coachjoshheupel I am very blessed and grateful to receive an offer from the University of Tennessee #GBO🍊 @Vol_Football @CoachTimBanks @Coach_Nez_ @CoachEkelerUT," Witten wrote on X.
Witten's other offers are from Baylor, Duke, Missouri, TCU and UAB. He excels as both a wide receiver and a safety.
As a freshman in 2023, Witten recorded 82 tackles, four tackles for loss, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and three blocked kicks. He also plays basketball and runs track, clocking impressive freshman times of 11.03 and 11.06 in the 100-meter dash and 22.94 in the 200-meter sprint.
Cooper Witten is ranked by On3 as the No. 42 player in the nation, the No. 3 safety in the 2027 class and the No. 9 player in Texas. 247Sports places him as the No. 25 player in the nation, the No. 2 safety in the class and the No. 5 player in the state.
Why is Cooper Witten's Tennessee offer so special?
Cooper Witten's offer from Tennessee ties back to his family's storied history with the program, as he is the son of legendary Volunteers tight end Jason Witten.
Jason left an incredible mark on the Vols during his three years as a tight end. In his senior season, he set the program's tight-end records with 39 receptions and 493 yards, finishing his college career with 68 receptions for 797 yards and seven touchdowns.
Jason's outstanding performance led to him being drafted in the third round of the 2003 NFL draft. He became an 11-time Pro Bowl selection, a two-time All-Pro and retired as one of the most productive tight ends in NFL history, ranking second in receptions and receiving yards among players at his position.
Jason Witten retired on Jan. 27, 2021, capping a career spent with the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders. Now, as head coach at Liberty Christian School, Witten’s influence continues.
