3 major takeaways from Week 10 of Alabama high school football ft. Alvin Henderson's AHSAA record

#1 Alvin Henderson sets a new all-time rushing record for Alabama

In a performance that will be remembered in AHSAA history, Elba High’s senior running back, Alvin Henderson, shattered Alabama’s all-time rushing record on Friday night.

Leading the Tigers to a 40-24 victory over Florala in a crucial Class 1A, Region 2 matchup, Henderson put on a show that brought his career rushing total to a record-breaking 9,935 yards.

Henderson’s accomplishment eclipsed the previous mark of 9,839 yards, held by Mac Campbell of Alexandria since 1997.

With 199 rushing yards and four touchdowns in this game alone, Henderson, who already tops national leaderboards with 2,625 rushing yards on 207 carries and 46 touchdowns this season, entered the matchup needing just 104 yards to make history.

Having committed to Auburn University, Henderson’s career stats are nothing short of exceptional, with an incredible 10,481 all-purpose yards and 178 touchdowns. The Elba Tigers now stand at 8-2 for the season, while Florala’s record fell to 7-3.

#2 Coosa Christian concludes a stellar regular season with a 9-1 record

After a challenging opening loss to Georgia’s Pierce County, Coosa Christian found its rhythm and embarked on an impressive run. The Conquerors closed the regular season with a 9-1 record and are now recognized as strong contenders for the Class 2A title.

Climbing to 2A this past offseason, Coosa Christian’s improvements have been remarkable, particularly their recent win streak. Their win on Friday night marks their fourth consecutive victory on the road, solidifying an 8-1 record.

Meanwhile, Opponents like West End have faced tougher seasons, with their recent defeat dropping them to 2-8.

Looking forward, Coosa Christian’s upcoming matchup with Tuscaloosa Academy on Friday at 7 p.m. could be another explosive game. This is especially true considering that both teams combined for over 800 yards in their prior games. West End will also hit the field on Friday night against Southeastern.

#3 Corner High achieves Its first region title since 1987

For the first time since 1987, Corner High School’s Yellow Jackets claimed a region title. With a tenacious comeback against Carver-Birmingham, Corner turned the tide in the final minutes of a close 31-30 win to secure the championship.

Trailing for much of the game, Corner’s Bradley Turner kicked a clutch 22-yard field goal with just under four minutes left, pushing Corner into a 31-30 lead.

In a nail-biting finish, Carver-Birmingham drove to Corner’s 1-yard line as time wound down. But a last-second defensive stand by Corner prevented a game-winning touchdown and sealed the region title.

After decades of near-misses and challenges, Corner’s hard-fought victory is a significant achievement for a team that has had limited success in past seasons.
