4-star Notre Dame QB commit Deuce Knight reportedly targets Auburn for next official visit: Report
Deuce Knight, the four-star quarterback from Lucedale, Mississippi announced his commitment to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in September last year. However, there are rumors about him flipping his commitment as he continues to take official visits to contending schools.
The 6-foot-4.5 athlete is reportedly set to visit the Auburn Tigers for their opening-day game against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Aug. 31. Another school that is reportedly in contention to flip the four-star quarterback is Ole Miss. Knight will make his decision in the upcoming weeks, as per 247Sports' analyst Tom Loy.
Brian Smith, the recruiting insider for the "Locked On Irish" podcast spoke about the Tigers' pursuit to land the coveted quarterback on Aug. 2:
"They [Auburn] were after Julian Lewis for a long and that fell through," Smith told podcast host Tyler Wojciak. "And then they went on to try and get an offer to an in-state kid, KJ Lacey. KJ got an [NIL] offer match from Texas and I got a phone call saying he's sticking with that."
Knight was the Tigers' next quarterback target and they offered him the same deal as Notre Dame, according to Smith:
"I've heard Notre Dame would match that and I don't know if that's true, but we'll see," Smith said. "It's all business, this is not recruiting with elite quarterbacks, this is about business now."
Other teams that extended an offer to Deuce Knight were Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Oregon, and Washington among others.
Deuce Knight signs historic NIL deal with Leaf Trading Cards Company
The four-star quarterback from George County High School is one of the best high school prospects in the country. The Mississippi native became one of the first high school players from the state to sign a NIL deal. Knight inked a multi-year, exclusive deal with Leaf Trading Cards Company.
He opened up about his deal in an interview with On3:
"I didn’t think it was going to happen in Mississippi," Knight said after signing the deal. "I really didn’t think they were going to pass this law. I thought it would eventually come, my coach said it was going to come, but I didn’t think it would happen when I was still in high school. It’s big for me and the athletes in this state."
Knight is ranked No. 33 in the country and is the seventh-best quarterback from his class, as per On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the second-best overall prospect from the state of Mississippi.
