5-star Arkansas Razorbacks' target Meleek Thomas provides a significant update on his recruitment
After making his official visits to several schools, five-star recruit Meleek Thomas trimmed down his choices to just three on Tuesday. He told On3's Joe Tipton that they are Pitt, Arkansas and UConn.
With the announcement of his final three schools, Thomas has now also dropped Kansas, Kansas State, Auburn and Alabama. He previously visited the Crimson Tide on Sept. 27 and the Tigers on Jan. 12. Thomas has stuck to the other three, with the latest official visit to a final three school happening in Arkansas on Oct. 4.
On3 is ranking Arkansas as the favorite to get the 6-foot-3 shooting guard's commitment at 94.2%. His hometown school, Pitt, follows this at 1.4% and then UConn at less than 1%.
Thomas is ranked the No. 8 overall prospect, the No. 2 shooting guard, and the No. 2 player out of Georgia from the class of 2025. He plays semi-professionally for Atlanta-based Overtime Elite's City Reapers squad and gets paid for it through his NIL. This makes him eligible for college, with Overtime Elite also having an academic side to help its players transition to higher education.
Before going to Overtime Elite, Meleek Thomas, a Pittsburgh native, played for Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Midland, Pennsylvania. During his junior year there, he averaged 22.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.2 steals per game, shooting 57% from the field, 38% from behind the 3-point line, and 78% from the free-throw line.
Meleek Thomas to make final college decision on Nov. 11
When Meleek Thomas announced his final three schools, he told On3's Joe Tipton that he would be making his final decision on Nov. 11.
Arkansas had been the most aggressive in pursuing the five-star shooting guard, but his connections to Pitt remain strong, and a reunion with former teammate and Pitt freshman Brandin Cummings may be coming.
Together, the duo dominated the WPIAL and the state of Pennsylvania together, winning back-to-back WPIAL and PIAA Class 4A championships. Pitt has also been aggressive in trying to get its hometown talent, with Thomas admitting the school has been contacting him almost every day.
UConn is also attractive for a player like Meleek Thomas, with the guard admitting that he loves the Huskies' "winning culture, a hard and gritty culture." He has also been praising coach Dan Hurley.
However, John Calipari and Arkansas have been coming very strongly for Thomas, as the OTE star has admitted that he has felt "the love" from the Razorbacks and felt that it is "genuine."
