5-star Ohio State commit Tavien St. Clair records career milestone with Buckeyes' offensive coordinator Chip Kelly in attendance
Ohio State's highly touted five-star quarterback recruit Tavien St. Clair recently reached a remarkable milestone in his high school football career. St. Clair recorded his 100th career touchdown pass, becoming the 13th player in Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) history to do so. He now sits 11th on the all-time list with 102 touchdown passes.
In a standout performance on Senior Night for Bellefontaine High School, St. Clair threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns while completing 20 of 25 passes. His impressive effort led Bellefontaine to a 49-7 victory over Jonathan Alder.
With Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly watching from the stands, St. Clair’s leadership helped improve Bellefontaine’s record to 7-2 with just one regular season game remaining.
St. Clair’s high school career has been marked by significant progress. As a sophomore in 2022, he threw for 2,453 yards and 25 touchdowns. His junior year in 2023 saw even greater success, with 3,983 passing yards and 37 touchdown passes, establishing him as one of the top quarterbacks in the country.
St. Clair isn’t the only elite talent in Ohio State’s 2024 recruiting class. The Buckeyes' group includes two other five-star recruits: cornerbacks Devin Sanchez and Na’eem Offord.
Additional top-100 recruits include linebacker Riley Pettijohn, safety Faheem Delane, offensive tackle Carter Lowe, wide receiver Quincy Porter, defensive end Zahir Mathis and running back Bo Jackson.
Ohio State targets 2026 quarterbacks as recruiting landscape evolves
Ohio State is locked in with quarterback Tavien St. Clair for the 2025 class, but the search for a 2026 signal-caller remains wide open. While 2027 shows early promise with California’s five-star Brady Edmunds leaning toward the Buckeyes, the 2026 quarterback situation has raised questions.
The Ohio State recently extended an offer to Trashawn Ruffin, a four-star defensive lineman from North Duplin High School in North Carolina. At 6-foot-3 and 307 pounds, Ruffin is turning heads with his raw talent and versatility on offense and defense.
Ranked among the top 50 defensive linemen in his class, Ruffin has also received offers from North Carolina State and Georgia. His recent visit to NC State saw him attend the Wolfpack’s loss to Syracuse.
Meanwhile, Ohio State's sole 2026 commitment so far is Chris Henry Jr., the nation’s No. 3 overall player. The Buckeyes’ wide receiver-friendly system continues to attract elite quarterback talent, and 2026 remains a key recruiting cycle to watch.
Looking ahead to 2025, competition is set to intensify at the quarterback position, with Julian Sayin, Air Noland and St. Clair all vying for playing time. St. Clair, a five-star prospect, is expected to be in Columbus through at least 2027, limiting immediate opportunities for other quarterbacks.
