5-star OT David Sanders Jr. gives fans an insight into his recruitment process as he considers Georgia, Ohio State and more
David Sanders Jr. is an offensive tackle from the class of 2025. He is set to reveal his college choice live on the 247Sports YouTube channel and CBS Sports HQ on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. ET. Sanders Jr. is ranked the nation’s No. 3 overall prospect and the highest-ranked uncommitted player. He has narrowed his options to Georgia, Nebraska, Ohio State and Tennessee.
Sanders Jr. has just expressed his thoughts on his journey so far in a video shared on X:
"Commitment is about making a daily decision to persevere, to stay focused amidst distractions, and to continually strive towards your goals. Throughout this journey, much has been required, nothing was given, and everything was earned."
"I have enjoyed every second and leaving my mark on the game I love. I have appreciated my journey as I am humbly blessed. I have been patient. I put in the words seen and unseen."
Sanders Jr. further reflected on the next step of his journey:
"As one chapter closes, I must now begin to write the next. I am truly blessed to have received an overwhelming amount of collegiate scholarship offers, and without further consideration, I have chosen to continue my academic and athletic endeavors at..."
As per previous reports of Steve Wiltfong of On3, Tennessee, Ohio State and Nebraska were leading the charge as Sanders Jr. nears his decision.
“He could end up at three schools: Tennessee, Ohio State, Nebraska.” Obviously we’re now in the home stretch, he’s going to commit on the 17th. To my knowledge, no final decision has been made, no school has been alerted, they’re still having dialogue with all three of them and these programs are going to get the chance to make a final pitch.”
5-Star OT David Sanders Jr. leans toward Tennessee as decision day approaches
Tennessee has emerged as the frontrunner for five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr., following On3’s Steve Wiltfong’s early prediction on Aug. 9. Sanders Jr., who has made five visits to Knoxville this year, is particularly impressed by Tennessee’s coaching staff.
"Coach Josh Heupel and Coach Glen Elarbee excel at building personal connections," Sanders said earlier this year at the On3 Elite Series in Nashville. "At Tennessee, you can be yourself, even though it's a big SEC school with a strong tradition of winning."
While Tennessee has been a constant presence in Sanders Jr.'s recruitment, other schools remain in the race. Nebraska hosted Sanders Jr. for a visit in late July, and Ohio State has also welcomed him multiple times.
Georgia, another top option, has long been on Sanders Jr.'s radar.
"Georgia is the place if you want to go to the NFL," Sanders Jr. said.
In his junior season in 2023, Sanders Jr. made significant contributions on both sides of the ball. He helped his team accumulate 3,758 passing yards and recorded 32 quarterback hurries, 24 tackles and four sacks.
