5-star Tyran Stokes sets official visit to Pat Kelsey’s Louisville
Tyran Stokes, a standout sophomore from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, has an official visit scheduled to Pat Kelsey's Louisville for Oct. 3-5. Currently ranked as the top player in the class of 2026 by two of the four major recruiting outlets, he also holds the No. 1 spot on the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Stokes, who is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2027 draft according to NBA Draft Room, has offers from top programs like Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville and UCLA. Speaking about his potential future at Louisville, Stokes told Zagsblog:
“It’s literally home. I’ve seen in recent years the program hasn’t been the best. But when I was younger, I’ve seen the capabilities that they had. And now with the new coach, coach [Pat] Kelsey, we’ll see if he can rebuild the school. He got some of his guys there for Charleston, so we’ll see what he can do the next few years.”
Tyran Stokes' journey has taken him across the country—from Louisville to San Diego, Atlanta, and then Napa, where he starred for Prolific Prep last year. During his sophomore season, he averaged 13.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game, leading his team to a stellar 34-6 record and a No. 4 national ranking. His performance earned him First-Team MaxPreps Sophomore All-American honors.
“Some people go out there and just bullshit," Stokes said. "But I don’t ever take games lightly. I want to win every game. I don’t really like losing.” (H/T Zagsblog)
Over the summer, Stokes continued to shine, averaging 19.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for the Oakland Soldiers on the Nike EYBL circuit. He also played for the USA Basketball U17 National Team in Turkey, contributing to their gold medal win by averaging 12.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game.
Tyran Stokes transfers to Notre Dame for a traditional high school experience
Tyran Stokes transferred this year from Prolific Prep in Napa, California, to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame to experience a more traditional high school environment while competing in the highly competitive Mission League.
“It’s what I expected, a regular high school, a lot more people," he said. "It’s a big adjustment, but I feel I’m going to be able to work through it and enjoy it.” (H/T Yahoo! Sports)
He explained his decision:
“Prep school, it’s great playing against the best of the best. But it’s not that real high school experience that I never got a chance to be a part of.” (H/T Zagsblog)
He also expressed enthusiasm about the training opportunities available in Los Angeles:
“There’s a lot of resources out there. Some of my closest friends are out there. You know, just being able to go and get some of the best work that I can before the next level.” (H/T Zagsblog)
Tyran Stokes joins fellow transfers Josiah Nance from Heritage Christian, bolstering a Notre Dame team that returns key players Zach White and Lino Mark from their Southern Section Division 1 championship run.
