"All eyes are towards me now": No. 1 QB in Louisiana weighs on Bryce Underwood's flip from LSU to Michigan
It has been two days since five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood flipped from LSU to Michigan, but the drama surrounding the move is a hot topic of discussion. From the NFL to college football, the debate is raging, and the No. 1-ranked quarterback in the 2027 class, Elijah Haven, has also weighed in on the situation.
Speaking with Tyler Harden of The Bengal Tiger, Haven gave a candid response:
"Flipping the commitment is a big deal. He's staying in his hometown and I'm sure all eyes are towards me now. I don't wanna get the big head. I still got a couple more years, a lot of time. So that's huge news, but I'm gonna take my time into the recruitment process, for sure."
Haven plays for Dunham High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, just miles from LSU’s campus. With Underwood now out of the picture, Haven has a chance to become the hometown hero for the Tigers.
Haven is still early in the recruiting process, but Brian Kelly's LSU is already trending as the favorite to land his commitment, with a 59.8% chance, according to On3. Interestingly, Michigan is also giving tough competition to LSU in this case. The school offered him earlier this month and is already in the race for his commitment with a 27.4% chance, per On3.
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier opened up about Bryce Underwood's flip
Bryce Underwood sounded head over heels for LSU due to the Tigers' quarterback development. He would have been a potential program-defining addition for LSU, but Michigan swooped in to secure his commitment.
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier commented on the situation by saying (via Reveille):
“We’re focused on who we got in the locker room, the guys that want to be here. At the end of the day, we want people that want to be here, that want to come play for coach Kelly, that want to come play for LSU, want to rep the purple and gold, that actually care about the three letters.”
Bryce Underwood’s decision was reportedly influenced by NIL opportunities. While LSU offered over $1.5 million per year, Michigan’s offer was around $12 million, as reported by 104.5 ESPN Radio's Matt Moscona.
Besides the impact of NIL, a continuous push from Sherrone Moore's coaching staff and multiple conversations with Michigan alum and NFL GOAT Tom Brady sealed the deal in Michigan's favor.
