"At first I thought he was an old guy talking trash" - 5-star prospect Jason Crowe Jr. reveals thoughts on NBA legend Paul Pierce
Jason Crowe Jr., a five-star point guard who is ranked eighth in the Class of 2026, appeared on NBA legend Paul Pierce's "The Truth Lounge" podcast on Thursday. Jason joined the show along with his father, Jason Crowe Sr.
On the podcast, the 16-year-old candidly discussed his journey as a rising basketball star. One of the highlights of the discussion was his humorous first impression of Pierce, the former NBA champion and 10-time NBA All-Star. The 6-foot-3 point guard was asked about his initial impressions of Pierce growing up and his thoughts on the NBA legend's basketball career.
"At first, I thought he was an old guy talking trash," Jason Jr. said with a laugh (14:43 - 15:18). "But then, when I got older and started watching highlights, that's when I started understanding why he's a top player. I feel like he's very underrated, and he should get more credit than he already has.
"I see it right here what he does. I mean, it's not a lot of people that can do that."
Jason Crowe Jr. also touched on how he's been getting advice from top NBA players like Jason Tatum and Russ Westbrook.
"Jayson Tatum. I talk to him here and there. He always gives me pointers and stuff like that," Jason Jr. said. "I text him every couple of days and stuff like that. And then obviously, Westbrook, playing for his program, we talk very often, just give me pointers and stuff like that and so that's it." (32:55 - 33:17)
Having moved from Lynnwood to join the team at Inglewood High School in California, Jason Crowe Jr. is not only following his father's footsteps, but he's also enjoying the opportunity of playing under his father, Jason Crowe Sr., who's currently the head coach at Inglewood.
Jason Crowe Jr. on following his father's legacy and winning with Inglewood
In the "The Truth Lounge" podcast episode, Jason Crowe Jr. also spoke about his transition from Lynwood to his father’s alma mater, Inglewood High School, where he is determined to replicate his earlier success at Lynwood and bring home a state championship.
When asked by Paul Pierce what it means to bring home a state champion and if that's the goal, Jason Jr. said:
"That's definitely the goal. I mean, I did that at Lynwood; they hadn't won a championship for a long time as well, then we came in and did that. Going to Inglewood, I feel like I can do it again." (3:50 - 4:10)
Jason Crowe Jr. will also hope to continue the legacy established by his father, who, as a standout high school player at Inglewood, led his team to a CIF championship. Now serving as the Inglewood coach, he often reminds Jason Jr. of those achievements during practice.
"He always says at every practice… 'I'm in the banners,'" Jason Jr. said with a laugh. (4:12 -4:20)
With his father as both coach and inspiration, Jason Crowe Jr. will hope to lead Inglewood to championship glory, proving he’s ready to add his own chapter to the family’s basketball legacy.
