Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty has been a menace since his high school football days
Ashton Jeanty, Boise State's standout running back, has been making a name for himself in college football. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Jeanty moved to Frisco, Texas, where he attended Lone Star High School.
His versatility on the field helped him excel not only as a running back but also in wide receiver and defensive roles. During his senior year, Jeanty racked up 1,843 rushing yards on 229 carries, maintaining an average of 8.0 yards per carry.
His impressive 41 total touchdowns — 31 on the ground and 10 through the air — cemented his status as one of Texas' top recruits. 247Sports ranked him as a four-star recruit, while ESPN awarded him three-star status.
Jeanty made an immediate impact at Boise State. In the 2022 Frisco Bowl, he rushed for an impressive 178 yards and scored a touchdown. Sharing duties with teammate George Holani in 2023, Jeanty led the Broncos in rushing with 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Jeanty's momentum continued into the 2024 season, where he had a record-breaking performance in the opener against Georgia Southern. He shattered a Boise State single-game rushing record with 267 yards and matched both the Mountain West and Paulson Stadium records with six touchdowns.
This performance was the best by any FBS running back in the first week of the season.
Ashton Jeanty's Boise State dominates Washington State in front of a record-breaking crowd
Boise State hit a remarkable record by playing an outstanding game of 45-24 with Washington State, and the event attracted the largest audience in the history of the Albertsons Stadium, with 37,711 fans.
This blowout victory marked a key moment for the Broncos as they prepare to join the Pac-12.
The No. 25 Broncos were led by a stellar performance from Jeanty, who rushed for 259 yards and four touchdowns. Matt Lauter added four receptions for 96 yards and two scores.
Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson praised Jeanty’s performance, saying:
"He was relentless. He talked about a guy who puts his team on his back, loves this team, and will find a way to score because that's what the team needs — that's Ashton. When your best players are your hardest workers, you've always got a shot."
Even Washington State coach Jake Dickert acknowledged the dominance of the Broncos’ rushing attack, saying:
"Jeanty was incredible. Ten yards a carry. Obviously, you've got to hold him to less than that if you want to win the football game."
Boise State's record got a boost to 3-1 after being a ranked team for the first time since 2020. On the other hand, Washington State, currently 4-1, had problems responding, particularly on the ground.
Jeanty, the nation’s leading rusher, opened the game with a 64-yard touchdown on the Broncos’ fifth play and finished with 26 carries and a 7-yard reception.
