Brent Key's Georgia Tech flips four-star safety from Clemson in the Class of 2025
Four-star safety Tae Harris flipped from Clemson to Georgia Tech's 2025 class on Saturday. The decision came after he attended the Yellow Jackets’ thrilling 30-29 victory over NC State on Thursday.
"I'm committing to Georgia Tech because of the family atmosphere there and because the program is building something great," Harris told 247Sports.
The decision comes at a promising time for Brent Key's program, which is currently 7-4 and bowl-eligible for the second consecutive season. It will close the regular season in a game against in-state rival Georgia on Nov. 29.
Besides the on-field success, Georgia Tech has been making huge moves in recruiting. The coaching staff has been recruiting Harris hard since his junior season, and it never stopped.
“The coaches have been telling me how much they need me and how much they want me," Harris told On3. "They love my game this year, how it has been showing and they want to build around me in their defense.”
In his senior season with Cedartown High School in Georgia this year, Harris recorded 1,018 rushing yards and 19 receptions for 270 receiving yards, while contributing 70 tackles, seven tackles for loss, six pass break-ups and three forced fumbles. He is a multi-sports star and clocked a 10.6-second 100-meter as well as a 21.2-second 200-meter in spring.
Tae Harris initially committed to Georgia last year before backing off the pledge from the Bulldogs in January and committing to Clemson in March.
Georgia Tech and Clemson 2025 class recruiting update
Tae Harris' commitment pushed Georgia Tech's 2025 class from No. 19 to No. 17 nationally and No. 2 in the ACC, according to 247Sports. This class now features six four-star commits and one five-star prospect.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Harris is from Cedartown, Georgia. The eight highest-ranked commits in the class are all from Georgia, which contributes to a heavy in-state presence, with 15 Georgia-based recruits on the list.
Meanwhile, Clemson's recruiting efforts have taken a hit, as the program currently sits with only 13 committed players, just 11 days before the early signing period. Cornerback Graceson Littleton backed off his pledge earlier this month.
This cycle also lost the commitments of quarterback Blake Hebert, edge rusher Bryce Davis, interior offensive lineman Jaylan Beckley and defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell.
