Brent Key's Georgia Tech lands commitment from Four-Star DL Christian Garrett to the class of 2025

Georgia Tech’s football program, under the leadership of Brent Key, secured a major commitment from Christian Garrett, a four-star defensive lineman for the class of 2025. Garrett, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 260 pounds, hails from Bogart, Georgia, and is ranked 135th on the ESPN 300 list for 2025. He is also recognized as the seventh-best defensive tackle in this recruiting cycle.

Just days after Georgia Tech's victory over No. 10 Florida State in Ireland, Garrett announced his decision to join the Yellow Jackets on Monday morning.

"AGTG!! I’m home," he posted on X.

His decision came after uncertainty, having initially committed to the University of Georgia (UGA) for nearly two months. Christian Garrett initially chose the Bulldogs over Georgia Tech, Clemson, Tennessee, and USC. However, the defensive tackle ultimately felt a stronger connection with Georgia Tech.

"At Georgia Tech, I just felt good," Garrett shared with On3. "After I committed to Georgia, it didn’t set in my heart. It was hard to rest. My heart led me to Georgia Tech."

The Yellow Jackets now have commitments from five in-state ESPN 300 prospects in this cycle. This group includes offensive tackle Petty from Roswell, Georgia, who recently became the highest-rated commit for Georgia Tech in the ESPN rankings era.

Georgia Tech adds another key recruit in Christian Garrett to bolster the 2025 class

Christian Garrett's commitment is a significant boost for Georgia Tech. As of August 22, the Yellow Jackets’ 2025 class ranks No. 23 in ESPN’s latest team rankings. Garrett, a standout at Prince Avenue Christian in Georgia, excels in football and track and field.

Last fall, as a junior, he made 86 tackles, including five sacks, and recorded an interception. This season, he already has 10 tackles and a sack in just two games.

Other notable in-state recruits are cornerback Dalen Penson (No. 171), as well as offensive linemen Damola Ajidahun (No. 180) and Justin Hasenhuetl (No. 220). Garrett emphasized the appeal of both Georgia Tech's football program and its academic opportunities, saying,

"It not just football. Georgia Tech building a great program, and I want to be a part of that. But the academics are important too. Coach Key is a great guy, and he made really good impressions on me and the family.”

Christian Garrett also visited Clemson officially and made unofficial trips to Tennessee and Alabama in the spring. Meanwhile, Georgia remains active in the 2025 recruiting cycle, targeting top defensive line prospects like Elijah Griffin and Justus Terry. Both players are among the best in the nation, and the Jackets are still in contention to land them.
