Brian Kelly's LSU eyes future star as NFL legend Larry Fitzgerald's son plans LSU visit
LSU head coach Brian Kelly is focusing on a rising talent in high school football: Devin Fitzgerald, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald. Devin, a wide receiver for Brophy Prep in Phoenix, Arizona, has garnered significant attention for his on-field performance and is set to visit LSU soon.
Through just five games this season, the three-star wideout from Brophy Prep has posted 17 receptions, 269 receiving yards and five touchdowns—more than doubling his previous season’s performance.
Fitzgerald's recruitment gained momentum after he surpassed the 10-scholarship offer mark. His upcoming October visit to LSU is particularly intriguing, considering the Tigers have yet to make an offer.
Fitzgerald showcased his talent as a sophomore with 175 receiving yards, 15 receptions and two touchdowns. Now, as a member of the 2026 recruiting class, he’s rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports.
Devin Fitzgerald once reflected on his recruitment journey and his growing list of offers
In a past interview with Leila Ruterman, Devin Fitzgerald shared insights on his recruitment process. He reflected on the slower start to his recruitment compared to his teammates.
"I think it started off slow since, I mean, like a couple of my teammates got them freshman year, which that was awesome and everything, but mine didn't come until sophomore year," he said.
He attributed his success to the hard work he put in during the summer, attending various camps.
"I think it's been going great. I went to a bunch of camps this summer and that really I got a bunch from that. All the Ivy Leagues, went to Pitt and I just performed and it's going well offseason paying off," he added.
Despite being the son of one of the NFL's all-time greats, Fitzgerald is determined to establish his identity on the field.
"I'm trying to build like my own name I'm trying to know his name. I'm trying to be known as Devin Fitzgerald, not Larry Fitzgerald's son. I keep performing hopefully it will happen soon," he remarked.
Fitzgerald is also focused on academics and alumni connections in his future school.
“I want to see a school with great alumni and a really good education,” he said.
Currently holding offers from schools like Arizona, Akron, Minnesota, and Bowling Green, Fitzgerald’s recruitment is gaining momentum. The University of Minnesota Gophers, who are also eyeing recruits like four-star quarterback Jackson Kollock, have extended Fitzgerald an offer.
