Brian Kelly's LSU successfully flips commitment of 2025 class prospect Brandon Brown: Reports

Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie defensive tackle Brandon Brown announced he has switched his commitment from Texas to LSU. Brown, who originally pledged to the Longhorns last year, finalized his decision after considering multiple programs, including Oklahoma and Tennessee.

After giving his pledge to Brian Kelly's LSU, Brown said he would shut down his visits to other programs.

"My home is Baton Rouge," Brown told Death Valley Insider.

Brandon Brown has become the Tigers' No. 14 overall commit in the class, joining Zion Williams and LaJesse Harrold in the defensive lineman room. The pledge is a major win for LSU, which just lost the commitment of five-star receiver Dakorien Moore.

Brown currently ranks as the No. 218 player nationally, the No. 20 defensive lineman in the country, and the No. 29 player in Florida, per On3. 247 Sports places him as the No. 54 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 63 player in the state.

Brown recorded 65 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, and four sacks last season, earning him first-team All-Space Coast Defensive Football honors. He also proved his athleticism in track and field, excelling in the shot put at 51 feet, 10 inches.

Brandon Brown shares the reason behind pulling his pledge from Texas

Brandon Brown's change of heart stemmed primarily from the departure of Coach Bo Davis. Davis, the former defensive line coach at the Longhorns, accepted a position with the Tigers in January.

Brown took several visits to LSU over the last few months before ultimately joining Davis in the program.

"Obviously, it’s not much of a secret of me and Coach Bo’s [Davis] relationship," Brown said ( via Death Valley Insider). That is probably the main reason why I committed to Texas in the first place. But I wanted to do it the right way. I love Texas and I love the entire staff, including Coach [Kenny] Baker."

But Davis isn’t the sole reason why Brown decommitted.

"But, the relationship I have with Coach Bo is different. I didn’t want to Decommit from Texas just because Coach Bo left. But LSU has everything that I want in a program as well."

Brandon Brown was the No. 3 pledge of the 2025 class for Texas, joining KJ Lacey and Emaree Winston. He has been seen as an interior defensive line prospect in the Texas program and his departure now leaves the program without a defensive tackle commit for the 2025 class.

The loss also fell heavily on Texas, as four different defensive tackle recruits being pursued by it chose to commit elsewhere. However, the Longhorns have also landed 10 commitments since the start of April alone, including Lance Jackson and Smith Orogbo.
