"Bro can’t make his mind up": Fans react to Georgia CB commit Shamari Earls' Michigan flip rumors
Four-star linebacker Shamari Earls has been hitting the headlines as a three-phase player at Thomas Dale High School in Virginia since his sophomore year. Earls is also among the top-ranked prospects in Georgia's 2025 recruiting class.
However, On Saturday, On3's Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction for Michigan to flip Earls. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the school a 43.1% chance in this regard.
It follows Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, on 247Sports, placing a Crystal Ball Prediction of the Michigan flip last week.
Earls had committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks before flipping to Georgia on July 7. If he does commit to Michigan, it would mark his third commitment.
This rumored flip has earned strong reactions from fans across social media, and many criticized Earls’ recruitment journey as indecisive.
"Bro can’t make his mind up," a fan wrote.
"Hahaha … The guy already flipped from South Carolina, so his word means nothing. I wouldn’t be sure about him … until the ink’s dry in Dec," one wrote.
"Bro already ruined his career before it started going from a elite team to mid team but I get it if he wanted to start," another wrote.
Let's look at more reactions to this discussion.
However, for Michigan fans, this is big recruiting news. Earls is the No. 7 linebacker in the 2025 class, per On3. He is also rated as the No. 65 overall prospect in the nation and the No. 2 recruit in Virginia.
"Great decision young man," one wrote.
"Michigan making big moves," one more wrote.
"Sherrone might be building something special," one user said.
Earls’ athleticism extends beyond the football field, as he won the state long jump title with a distance of 23-10.75, one of the top 10 distances in the nation, during his sophomore season.
Losing him would be a big blow to Georgia's 2025 recruiting class, which is currently ranked No. 3 nationally and No. 2 in the Southeastern Conference. This cycle holds the commitment of one more cornerback in four-star Jontae Gilbert.
Shamari Earls' potential in Michigan
Michigan’s secondary is in for a shake-up with star cornerback Will Johnson heading to the NFL after this season. His departure will leave a gap in the Wolverines defense, and the 2025 recruiting class is currently light on cornerbacks, with only four-star Jayden Sanders committed.
Michigan’s recruiting efforts will need to target more talent at cornerback to ensure the unit’s stability. Adding another skilled cornerback like Shamari Earls could provide a major boost.
Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class is solid, ranking No. 12 in the country with 17 committed players. The class is fresh off a huge commitment from five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola last week. It also features promising players like Kainoa Winston, Andrew Marsh, Ivan Taylor and Andrew Olesh.
