Can Kirby Smart secure Christian Gass? 4-star LB lists down top schools while setting commitment date

Christian Gass, a four-star linebacker from the class of 2025, is gearing up to announce his college decision on July 20. The Georgia Bulldogs, led by coach Kirby Smart, have been in the mix since extending a scholarship offer in December 2023.

Gass, who has steadily climbed the recruiting rankings, stands as the No. 203 player overall, according to the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound athlete ranks as the 22nd linebacker and the 31st overall prospect in Georgia.

Georgia has a reputation for recruiting top-tier linebackers, having secured commitments from three top-10 linebackers in recent classes. The Bulldogs hope to continue this trend with Gass in the 2025 cycle.

Gass, who plays high school football at Eastside High School in Covington, Georgia, is set to choose between Georgia, Tennessee and USC.

As the No. 85 overall prospect in the 2025 On3 Rankings, he faces a crucial decision this weekend. The LB emphasized the importance of family input in his decision-making process, telling On3:

"It's about sitting down with my family... and getting all their feelings on it."

Christian Gass values the coaching he will receive and is less concerned about immediate playing time, stating:

"If I go in and do what I got to do, then I’m going to play."

Gass's versatility, speed off the edge, and coverage skills make him a standout prospect. He also runs track for Eastside, showcasing his athleticism.

As the commitment date nears, Smart and his staff will likely highlight Georgia's culture, player development and championship potential, bolstered by their 2021 national title.

It has to be seen how the Bulldogs aim to persuade Gass that Georgia is the ideal place for his future.

Christian Gass weighs top three schools ahead of commitment decision

Georgia, Tennessee and USC were the first programs to extend an offer to Gass this spring, and he has since visited each campus. Feeling genuine affection from the coaching staff was crucial for Gass.

"When I narrowed it down to my top three, the biggest thing for me was life after football," Gass told On3. He added, "You can really tell what love is genuine."

Christian Gass is keen on playing both edge and stack linebacker positions, and the defensive schemes at his top choices have been a significant consideration. He values the interactive coaching styles he observed during his visits, stating:

"I went into the film room and how things were in the film room. Are you asking questions? Are they reciprocating the energy or are they just sitting there and writing down stuff?”

Gass also emphasized the importance of life beyond football and his faith.

"Honestly, life after football, the football aspect, scheme, my gut feelings, and then just following God. God will help me through this whole process, and I just pray he got me to the right decision," he shared with 247Sports.

Georgia, an in-state favorite, has been recruiting Gass intensively. The Bulldogs, with key figures like Glenn Schumann and Chidera Uzo-Diribe, envision him as a hybrid player.

Christian Gass has made a significant mark on the field, recording 68 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and two sacks during his junior season. He is ranked 264th in the 2025 class by the On3 Industry Rankings and holds the 243rd overall spot in the 247Sports composite ranking.
