"Carde Smith getting absolutely kentucky fried": CFB fans react to Colorado signee being named the top Alabama-Mississippi All-Star practice performer
Carde Smith, one of Colorado’s prized recruits for 2025, has drawn attention after being named the top performer during the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star practice. Ranked as the No. 18 offensive tackle in the Rivals250, Smith is set to make an immediate impact at Colorado.
The 6-foot-6 four-star tackle will head to Boulder on Dec. 20 to prepare with head coach Deion Sanders, offensive line coach Phil Loadholt, and the Buffaloes for their Alamo Bowl matchup against BYU.
Smith’s performance during the 38th annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game practices has been a hot topic. Fans on social media had mixed reactions, with one saying:
“Uhhhh the only clips I’ve seen was Carde Smith getting absolutely kentucky fried.”
“Seen Carde get done up a few times but 👌🏻,” another added.
"Trying to find a Bama player be like," a fan posted.
Here is how other fans are expressing their reactions:
"why are we giving out rankings from a practice tho," a fan said.
"carde smith got WORKED by jared smith , good choice for him to go out of the sec," a fan quipped.
"If Carde wasn’t going to Colorado he wouldn’t be on here," another remarked.
Despite these comments, analysts and coaches remain impressed with Smith’s potential. According to On3, Smith excelled at right tackle, displaying elite traits and exceptional pass-blocking skills.
With his towering frame and long reach, he was a standout among offensive linemen. During 1-on-1 drills, Smith faced Zion Grady, a top-ranked pass rusher, and held his ground effectively. The event also featured other top recruits, Oregon-bound Na’eem Offord and Tennessee signee Timothy Merritt.
Auburn recruits Anquon Fegans and Eric Winters also shined, with Fegans snagging an interception and Winters breaking up a pass from his safety position.
The Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game will take place on Dec. 14 at South Alabama’s Hancock Whitney Stadium.
Carde Smith set to join Colorado: "It’s time to get to work"
Following in the footsteps of five-star tackle Jordan Seaton, Smith is determined to make an early impact at Colorado. The four-star offensive tackle, who starred at Williamson High School, Mobile, Alabama, plans to relocate to Boulder.
"On January 9 I'll leave for good," Smith told Rivals, adding, "It's time to get to work."
Initially committed to Auburn, Carde Smith flipped to USC before setting his sights on Deion Sanders' program at Colorado. His decision took shape after an October official visit:
"After my second visit, it felt like home. I'm ready for it. I'm ready to get to work. I wanted to give people a Thanksgiving for real. The coaches ... Coach Loadholt, being a Hall of Fame dude at right tackle, Coach Prime, and all the guys around him made it feel like home."
Smith was referring to offensive line coach Phil Loadholt’s Hall of Fame credentials. He added that Sanders’ status as a “gold-jacket guy” was also a factor.
"It's amazing," Smith, on his connection to Sanders, said, adding, "Being a head coach, a head coach that's a gold-jacket guy, it's amazing."
During high school, Smith played three seasons, helping his team achieve a 10-2 record and its best playoff run since 2007. The standout lineman earned All-State honors and was recognized as Lineman of the Month and Player of the Week.
