Cincinnati Bearcats start their Thanksgiving celebrations by adding 4-star 2025 forward Shon Abaev to Wes Miller's 2025 recruiting class
Thanksgiving came with a special gift for the Cincinnati Bearcats, as 6'8" forward Shon Abaev announced his commitment to Wes Miller's 2025 recruiting class. The four-star recruit from Calvary Christian Academy is considered one of the top players in his class, ranking No. 29 in ESPN's Top 100. Speaking about his commitment, Abaev told 247Sports:
"I chose Cincy because I just felt like it was the best fit for me to be able to make it to the NBA in one year and I trusted the Head Coach and his coaching staff."
His decision was influenced by the trust he developed with Coach Wes Miller, whom he credits for offering him the best opportunity to pursue his goal of playing in the NBA. Speaking with On3Sports, he said:
"It was just a gut feeling I had that I felt was enough to say that I wanted to play for Coach Wes Miller and his staff. Throughout the recruitment process, I felt like I built the best relationship with Wes Miller than other head coaches."
Coach Miller also shared his excitement about Abaev's commitment, praising his work ethic and competitive nature. In a welcoming video released in the Bearcats official Instagram page @gobearcatsmbb, Miller said.
"Sean puts winning at a premium. He's a Bearcat. He fits here. He's one of the hardest workers we've ever recruited. He's one of the biggest winners we've recruited."
"People point to his scoring all the time. He can really score. But the thing I don't think people realize is that he's unbelievable at making plays for others. He's unbelievable when he has the ball in his hands as a facilitator."
Abaev's versatile skills as a scorer, passer, and defender make him a key addition to the Bearcats' roster as they continue to build for the future under coach Wes Miller.
