"Coach Davis and Coach Freeze have been telling me to get down here": Miami WR commit Daylyn Upshaw shares Auburn's pursuit to recruit him
Three-star wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw has remained committed to Miami's 2025 class since July. However, the prospect is also hearing from other programs, including coach Hugh Freeze's Auburn.
Freeze and Tigers wide receivers coach Marcus Davis have increased communication with Upshaw, especially since mid-August. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder from Phenix City, Alabama, attended Auburn's dominant 73-3 victory over Alabama A&M on Aug. 31, where he continued to build his relationship with the Tigers' coaching staff.
"Coach Davis and coach Freeze have been telling me to get down here as much as I can, so I’ve just been doing that," Upshaw told 247 Sports.
Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class is turning into one of the nation’s best, ranking No. 6 with 24 committed players. Despite the phenomenal haul of blue-chip prospects, the Tigers have yet to secure a wide receiver in the class, making Upshaw a big target for the program.
However, Daylyn Upshaw told On3's Steve Wiltfong that the Hurricanes remain at the top of his list. Miami’s 2025 class is ranked No. 12 with 21 committed players, and Upshaw is the only wide receiver committed after Waden Charles decommitted earlier this summer.
Daylyn Upshaw's 2024 season performance so far
After an undefeated 13-0 campaign in 2023, the Central Red Devils entered the 2024 season ranked No. 22 in the MaxPreps Preseason Football Rankings. So far, they have lived up to the hype, now sitting at No. 17 with an undefeated record, and Daylyn Upshaw played a big part in this.
Upshaw's performance against Dothan on Friday, where he hauled in six catches for 188 yards and four touchdowns, was a game-changer, leading Central to a thrilling 42-35 victory. This followed another dominant performance on Sept. 5, when he racked up over 100 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns in a 69-15 rout of Smiths Station.
The prospect's season started incredibly with a three-touchdown game in the opener against Pinson Valley, where the Red Devils secured a 61-14 victory. He only played one half of that game, yet made that big impact.
Daylyn Upshaw is ranked by On3 as the No. 60 wide receiver in the 2025 class and the No. 17 prospect in Alabama. 247Sports places him as the nation's No. 55 wide receiver in the class and the No. 19 prospect in the state.
