Dan Lanning's Oregon lands commitment from 4-star QB Jonas Williams to the class of 2026: REPORTS

Jonas Williams, the four-star quarterback from Lincoln-Way East High School, has announced his commitment to the Oregon Ducks. The 6-foot-1.5 athlete from Frankfort Heights, Illinois, is one of the best prospects from the class of 2026 and was a hot commodity throughout his recruiting process.

Williams chose Oregon over other top-tier programs, such as Ohio State, Michigan, Purdue, LSU, Alabama, Michigan State, Iowa, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Illinois and Pittsburgh. Dan Lanning's offensive coordinator, Will Stein, was instrumental in recruiting the coveted prospect to the Ducks.

Oregon has been fantastic in its recruiting process so far. Their class of 2025 is ranked No.. 5, as per On3, and with players like Williams on board, they will look to create an elite roster from the class of 2026. The Ducks were always front-runners to acquire the Illinois native, as they had a 98.2 percent chance of landing the coveted prospect.

Williams is ranked No. 92 nationally and is the ninth-best quarterback from his class, as per On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the second-best overall prospect from his home state of Illinois.

Jonas Williams talks about committing to the Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks made a splash on Saturday when they landed the commitment of 2026 four-star quarterback Williams. The Illinois athlete received offers from some of the best schools in the country, including Alabama, Ohio State, LSU and Tennessee. However, the Ducks were the favorites to land him and ended up securing the quarterback's commitment.

The four-star recruit spoke about his decision and his new offensive coordinator, Will Stein.

"Oregon has been my dream school for awhile," Williams said, as per On3. "A lot of people talk highly of Oregon and it definitely lived up to that standard. When I got there I really liked Coach Stein and how he teaches. That’s really important. I’m going to spend a lot of time with him the next four years of my life."

He also talked about the Ducks' head coach, Dan Lanning, and his coaching staff at Oregon.

"I really like Coach Lanning," the Illinois native said. "He’s one of the most humble head coaches I’ve met. The whole coaching staff has a sense of integrity to them. I feel comfortable with them and can trust them."

Oregon has been one of the best recruiting teams this year. Their class of 2025 has already created a place in the top five, and they will hope to do the same with their class of 2026.
