Davis Warren high school stats: A look at Michigan Wolverines QB's career before college
Davis Warren’s journey to becoming the Michigan Wolverines' starting quarterback is remarkable. Born on Jan. 9, 2002, in Los Angeles, California, Warren's way to college football was not easy. During his junior year at Peddie School in New Jersey in 2019, he was diagnosed with leukemia in March, which required five months of aggressive chemotherapy and kept him sidelined.
However, he made a comeback for four games that year, completing 32 of 49 passes for 607 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. His senior season was canceled due to COVID-19, which kept his playtime in high school short.
When Davis Warren arrived at Michigan as a walk-on in 2021, he did not play in any games but was awarded the Michigan Scout Team Player of the Year. In 2022, he got a taste of on-field action, completing 5 of 9 passes for 89 yards and rushing for 30 yards across three attempts.
In 2023, Warren was still on reserve duty and played sparingly, attempting five passes but failing to record a completion and throwing one interception. Despite limited play, he contributed to Michigan’s national championship victory that season.
Entering 2024, Davis Warren competed for the starting quarterback position. After a solid Spring Game performance and with J.J. McCarthy leaving for the NFL, he earned his first collegiate start in Michigan's season opener against Fresno State on Aug. 31. He completed 15 of 25 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.
Davis Warren's start helped Michigan secure its season opener
Warren, who debuted as Michigan's starting quarterback in the opener, outdid early challenges with a narrow six-point lead midway and led his team to a 30-10 win over Fresno State.
"I never wavered," Warren told ESPN. "I never had any interest in leaving or going anywhere else. I wanted to be here. And obviously there's been some ups and down in the road, but it did feel really good tonight. I've thought about this day for a long time and envisioned it a lot."
Throughout training camp, Davis Warren competed with Alex Orji for the starting position. Though Orji saw action during the game, coach Sherrone Moore revealed Warren pulled ahead late in camp:
"Ultimately, he won the job the last week. He was just consistent, took care of the football, made plays against that defense that you saw out there. He ultimately took the job and won it. That made the decision easier for us." [H/T ESPN]
Though Warren took the first snaps, Orji contributed a three-yard touchdown pass to Donovan Edwards during Michigan’s opening drive. Known for his rushing abilities, he added five runs for 32 yards and completed one additional pass.
