DJ Uiagalelei high school stats: A look at FSU star's career before college

DJ Uiagalelei, now a quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles, has made quite an impact in college football. Before his time at FSU, he played for Clemson from 2020 to 2022 and then transferred to Oregon State in 2023.

Uiagalelei's journey began at St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California. As a junior in 2018, he earned the title of USA Today's High School Offensive Player of the Year, thanks to his 3,366 yards and 48 touchdowns.

In his senior season, he racked up 4,225 passing yards and another 48 touchdowns. Over his three-year varsity career, Uiagalelei amassed an extraordinary 10,496 passing yards, 127 passing touchdowns, 1,103 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns.

In his final year of high school, DJ Uiagalelei had a 64.5% completion rate, averaged 301.8 passing yards per game, and attained a quarterback rating of 144.2. He committed to Clemson on May 5, 2019, and enrolled in January 2020.

During his freshman season at Clemson, Uiagalelei made his first start on Oct. 31, 2020, leading the team in a comeback win against Boston College with 342 passing yards and two touchdowns. After spending three seasons at Clemson and one at Oregon State, he announced his decision to join FSU on Jan. 1.

FSU coach remains confident in DJ Uiagalelei despite first regular season loss since 2022

DJ Uiagalelei's first game at Florida State was challenging, but coach Mike Norvell remains confident. After a 24-21 defeat to Georgia Tech on Saturday in Ireland, Norvell said:

“I thought DJ did some good things. That fourth-quarter drive was particularly impressive. There were some tough calls on fourth down, challenging situations, but he stepped up. We had a few opportunities in the third quarter that we can learn from. Ultimately, we need to be more explosive offensively to succeed in 2024.”

In the loss, DJ Uiagalelei completed 19 of 27 passes for 193 yards. This followed a season at Oregon State where he threw for 2,638 yards, with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Florida State hoped for elite play from the quarterback to maintain its status as a national championship contender.

Florida State, which had not seen a regular season loss since 2022, now finds itself in a difficult situation on its way to a playoff spot. However, with the expanded playoff format for 2024, they still have a win-and-in opportunity through an ACC championship. The team's next game is against Boston College on Monday, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
