Elite 2025 class EDGE Javion Hilson decommits from Mike Norvell's FSU

Coach Mike Norvell's Florida State has hit a rough patch early in the 2024 season, starting 0-2 after Week 2. This recent slump has seen the Seminoles drop out of both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25, despite being a preseason top-10 team.

The losses have had big impacts on FSU's 2025 class, as four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles decommitted from Florida State and pledged to Texas on Saturday. This shift was quickly followed by another blow when four-star edge rusher Javion Hilson announced his own decommitment.

Hilson announced the news on X on Sunday afternoon, writing:

"After careful consideration, I have decided to decommit from Florida State and reopen my recruitment. I will be making my final decision in December. Thank you to everyone at FSU for their support."

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound prospect is a standout pass rusher at Cocoa High School in Florida and has been committed to the Seminoles since Jan. 12. He had previously been committed to Alabama before switching allegiance after coach Nick Saban’s retirement.

With Javion Hilson's decommitment, Florida State has only 11 committed players in its 2025 class. The Seminoles have dropped to No. 17 in the country from their previous No. 12 ranking.

FSU now has no edge rusher committed to the cycle, but it holds commitments of blue-chip prospects like Solomon Thomas, CJ Wiley, Daylan McCutcheon, Peyton Joseph, Kevin Wynn, Tramell Jones and Chase Loftin.

Which programs are in the race for Javion Hilson's commitment?

Javion Hilson has over 30 offers from college programs. This summer, he took official visits to Texas, Florida State, Florida and UCF. Each of these schools is considered a strong contender for his commitment, with the Seminoles leading the pack for his second commitment.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the program has a 30.2% chance of securing Hilson's pledge, followed by UCF at 21.2%, Florida at 13.8% and Texas at 11.5%.

Hilson secured the Defensive Line MVP at a Rivals camp in Miami this offseason. In 2024, he played three games, tallying 24 tackles, three sacks and five quarterback hurries.

Javion Hilson is ranked by On3 as the No. 63 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 8 edge rusher in the 2025 class and the No. 10 recruit in Florida. Rivals place him as the nation's No. 15 overall prospect, the No. 1 edge rusher in the class and the No. 2 recruit in the state.
