Five-star LSU commit Bryce Underwood shuts down Michigan flip amid $4 million NIL rumors

Five-star LSU quarterback commit Bryce Underwood stands out as an exception in today’s chaotic world of college football recruiting, where even committed prospects often visit other programs or entertain offers. Since pledging to LSU in January, he has shut down his recruitment entirely and ignored outside advances despite being constantly linked to Michigan.

On Friday, rumors about Underwood potentially flipping to Michigan were reignited when an Instagram post from "The D-Zone" claimed that the Wolverines were offering him $4 million in NIL. The post stirred speculation that Michigan might still be in the running for him.

However, Underwood wasted no time in dispelling these rumors. In response to the post, he simply commented:

"😂😂😂😂."

Underwood was recruited by current Michigan offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell and former coach Jim Harbaugh before ultimately choosing LSU.

However, the persistence of Michigan cannot be denied. Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, has announced his willingness to spend $3 million annually to help Michigan land a top-10 signal-caller each year. During an episode of the "Barstool Pick Em" podcast earlier this month, Portnoy named Underwood as Michigan’s ideal choice.

Even the founder of Chat Sports, James Yoder, chimed in by offering to throw another $1 million on top of the potential NIL deals. Despite these eye-catching offers, Underwood’s commitment to LSU appears ironclad so far.

LSU has 27 committed players in the 2025 class, ranking No. 4 in the nation and No. 3 in the Southeastern Conference. Meanwhile, Michigan's cycle ranks No. 14 in the nation with 16 committed players.

Bryce Underwood is compared with an NFL legend

Bryce Underwood is drawing high praise and comparisons to one of the greatest college quarterbacks of all time: Vince Young, who famously led the Texas Longhorns to a BCS national championship in 2005.

Young's iconic performance in the 2005 Rose Bowl is remembered as one of the best in college football history. He accounted for five total touchdowns and over 460 yards of total offense in the Longhorns' 41-38 victory over the USC Trojans.

His 467 total yards set a Rose Bowl record at the time, and his game-winning touchdown run with less than 20 seconds left sealed the program's first national title in 35 years.

Similarly, Underwood has the skills to potentially lead LSU to greatness. Although technically a 2026 prospect, he is completing school early by reclassifying as part of the 2025 recruiting class.
