Four-star Alabama running back target Ezavier Crowell reclassifies to the 2026 cycle
Four-star running back Ezavier Crowell has been a top target for Alabama in the 2027 class. The in-state prospect from Jackson High School (Alabama) decided to reclassify to the 2026 class on Tuesday.
With this decision, Crowell will now skip his junior season and play his final year of high school football this fall.
Crowell had been ranked as the No. 7 overall prospect, the top running back and the No. 1 player in Alabama for the 2027 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. With his reclassification, he now ranks as the No. 177 overall player and the No. 15 running back in the 2026 class.
Crowell has been actively recruited by Alabama running backs coach Robert Gillespie, and the Crimson Tide is leading the race for his recruitment with a 48.2% chance of securing his commitment.
"I have a great relationship with the staff,” Crowell told Touchdown Alabama last week. “The coaching staff is great.”
Alabama's 2026 class was hit with multiple decommitments and is left with only one committed player: four-star cornerback Zyan Gibson, who is also an in-state prospect out of Gadsden High School.
Besides Ezavier Crowell, the Crimson Tide is also trending for another in-state running back: four-star prospect Ja'Michael Jones out of Pike Road High School. He is the No. 28 running back in the 2026 class and the No. 15 recruit in Alabama, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
Which other schools are in Ezavier Crowell's recruitment race besides Alabama?
As Alabama is the leader in Ezavier Crowell's recruitment, he is scheduled to visit Tuscaloosa on Feb. 1 for the program's junior day event. Besides the Crimson Tide, Auburn is another major program in his recruitment, and he has scheduled a visit to the Tigers for Friday.
Crowell has received offers from more than 30 schools, including Texas, Oregon, Florida State, Ole Miss, Georgia, Ohio State, Miami, Texas A&M and USC.
In just two seasons, Crowell has amassed 3,701 rushing yards and 56 touchdowns, along with 470 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. He averages over 11 yards per carry and 17 yards per reception, with his highlight reel drawing comparisons to classic Derrick Henry footage.
