Four-star LSU commit Damien Shanklin reacts to Arkansas' crushing defeat in Week 8
Arkansas suffered a tough 34-10 loss to the No. 8 LSU on Saturday at Reynolds Razorback Stadium, which was packed with the fourth-largest crowd in its history. By the end of the game, the home crowd had dwindled, with mostly LSU fans remaining to celebrate yet another victory in Fayetteville.
It marked Brian Kelly's program's fifth consecutive win in Fayetteville, a streak that continued to haunt Arkansas. Four-star LSU edge rusher commit Damien Shanklin took to X following the game to taunt the Razorbacks, writing:
"That’s why you don’t choose to play the tigers on your homecoming 😹😹😹 #STTDB🐯."
For Arkansas, this game represented a chance to claim its second top-10 win in a single season, which the program hadn't achieved since 1965. However, LSU's dominance in the first half quickly dashed those hopes.
The Tigers built a two-possession lead early and never looked back, while the Razorbacks struggled to get anything going on offense, finishing with just 38 rushing yards. Arkansas' inability to establish a ground game and struggles on third downs left it unable to compete with LSU's caliber.
This marked LSU's third straight win over Arkansas, continuing the Razorbacks' winless streak against the Tigers on their home turf since 2014. The Tigers will take on No. 14 Texas A&M next weekend.
Damien Shanklin reaffirms his commitment to LSU
Several committed 2025 class prospects have been in discussion with other college programs and have even made gameday visits. But Damien Shanklin closed his recruitment in July to shift his focus to the early signing period in December.
Shanklin announced the news on X, writing:
"I will be closing my recruitment im 1000% Commited 🐯🐯🐯@TomLoy247 @IamClint_C @ChadSimmons_."
LSU boasts the nation's No. 4 recruiting class with 27 commitments in the 2025 cycle to this point. It also ranks No. 3 in the nation. The Tigers this cycle witnessed a big blow when five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore reneged on his pledge in May. It also dealt with two more decommitments from four-star cornerback Jaboree Antoine and three-star cornerback Jaylen Bell.
However, LSU still holds commitments of three five-star prospects in the 2025 class and multiple four-star prospects like Damien Shanklin. He is ranked by the On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 135 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 17 edge rusher in the 2025 class and the No. 3 recruit in Indiana.
