Four-star Michigan safety commit Ivan Taylor to take Ann Arbor visit for game against Michigan State
Four-star safety Ivan Taylor, the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor, is one of the highest-rated prospects in Michigan's 2025 class. However, recent developments have cast doubt on the blue-chip prospect's long-term commitment to the Wolverines.
In an interview with On3's Joseph Hastings last month, Taylor revealed that, aside from Michigan, he is actively engaged in conversations with Alabama. This interest escalated when the 6-foot-0.5, 180-pound safety visited Tuscaloosa for the school's thrilling game against Georgia last weekend, where the Crimson Tide emerged victorious 41-34.
Despite the rising interest from Alabama, Taylor assured On3's Steve Wiltfong that he plans to return to Ann Arbor for the game against Michigan State on Oct. 26.
Taylor’s commitment has been a big win for new Michigan defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan. The upcoming trip will be a big chance for the Wolverines coaching staff to strengthen their relationship to prevent him from a potential flip.
Michigan's 2025 class ranks No. 14 in the nation with 16 committed players. Besides Ivan Taylor, the cycle has four-star prospect Kainoa Winston as the only other safety commit. It also features several four-star prospects, including tight end Andrew Olesh, wide receiver Andrew Marsh, quarterback Andrew Marsh, interior offensive lineman Avery Gach and defensive lineman Jaylen Williams.
Ivan Taylor's senior season performance so far
Ivan Taylor has been a standout in his senior season for the West Orange Warriors in Florida. Despite a recent 39-13 loss to Evans on Oct. 1, the Warriors had a phenomenal undefeated streak before the setback, compiling a 5-1 record.
Through four games, Taylor recorded 37 tackles, including 21 solo stops and five tackles for losses while also contributing on offense with 32 rushing yards and eight receiving yards. He also made his presence known in the secondary with four interceptions and four pass breakups, averaging 9.3 tackles per game.
Ivan Taylor had 50 tackles, three forced fumbles and one interception last season. Compared to last year, his growth is evident. He is ranked by the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine as the No. 60 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 6 safety in the 2025 class and the No. 9 recruit in Florida.
Apart from Michigan and Alabama, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are also in contention to recruit Taylor. Per On3's prediction machine, the Fighting Irish have a 64.7% chance of signing Taylor. The Wolverines have a 34% chance, while the Crimson Tide's percentage is less than 1.
