Four-star OL Malachi Goodman makes official Penn State visit after Auburn & Georgia tour
Top247 offensive lineman Malachi Goodman, a standout from Paramus (N.J.) Catholic, made an official trip to Penn State. Goodman ranks 124th nationally and 6th in his position, making him a coveted recruit for top football programs.
The No. 3 player in New Jersey has visited Penn State multiple times. However, this official visit allowed more in-depth conversations with offensive line coach Phil Trautwein and head coach James Franklin. Goodman highlighted the authentic relationships he’s developing with the Penn State coaching staff.
"I like that they are both genuine," he told Brian of 247 sports. "I like Penn State because my relationship with the coaches feels genuine."
During his visit, Goodman engaged in activities that helped him bond with current players. He appreciated the team's positive environment and energy.
"I loved it there," Goodman said. "The environment and energy of the team before the game stood out. And I also saw how if they went down a few points or had a bad play, the players wouldn’t hang their heads.”
In addition to Penn State, Goodman has been exploring other programs. He has already visited Illinois and Auburn and has plans to go to Georgia, Alabama and USC. His recruitment journey includes offers from these top programs, making it a competitive race for his commitment.
Goodman's athletic prowess is not limited to football. He also excels in track and field. He posted a 46-7.25 shot put throw during indoor competition in February 2024, following a sophomore season-best of 42-2.75 in January 2023.
Malachi Goodman explores Georgia: Bulldogs emphasize development
Malachi Goodman got an in-depth look at Georgia during his official visit to Athens on the weekend. Ranked No. 102 overall in the On3 Rankings, Goodman had previously visited Georgia on April 6.
The Bulldogs impressed Goodman again, particularly with their strength and conditioning program.
"Probably their weightlifting program, it’s pretty similar to Auburn and Alabama’s," Goodman told On3.
During this visit, Goodman had the opportunity to spend more time on campus and interact with the players.
“I got to be around the campus more and got to spend more time with the players, that was big,” he said.
Georgia's coaching staff focused their message on development, highlighting their track record of sending players to the NFL.
“The message was basically that they were going to get me to where I want to be, which is the league, and that out of all the schools, they are going to develop me the best,” Goodman explained.
Goodman also experienced the fun side of the visit, putting on Georgia’s uniform for the first time and dining with the coaches. While he enjoyed these activities, his primary focus remained on football and academics.
“I mean it was cool but I’d rather do all the football and education stuff,” he admitted.
According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Penn State is the frontrunner for Goodman, with a 21.6% chance of landing the four-star tackle.
