Four-star safety Matt Sieg labels his Penn State commitment as a "dream come true" moment
Four-star safety Matt Sieg committed to Penn State's 2026 class on Saturday just before the Nittany Lions game against Ohio State. He has become a familiar face in Happy Valley over the course of his recruitment, with the visit on Saturday being his seventh trip to campus.
The McDonald, Pennsylvania, native met with Penn State coach James Franklin at midfield to deliver his commitment news. This commitment is even more special as for Sieg, playing for the school is about fulfilling a lifelong dream.
“It means the world to be able to play for my in-state school," Sieg told On3. "I grew up as a huge Penn State fan and most of my family are huge fans as well. Being able to someday put on that uniform and run out in front of 107,000 is going to be a dream come true.”
The 6-foot-0, 170-pound prospect has helped Fort Cherry High School in Pennsylvania advance to the 1A Quarterfinals next weekend. Matt Sieg is the No. 187 recruit, the No. 13 safety in the 2026 class and the No. 5 prospect in Pennsylvania, according to Rivals.
Penn State's 2026 recruiting class is now up to seven commitments and improved from No. 15 to No. 7 in the nation. Sieg joins the offensive lineman Kevin Brown, wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers, running back Messiah Mickens, quarterback Troy Huhn, wide receiver Lavar Keys and defensive end Daniel Jennings in the cycle.
Matt Sieg shares the reasons behind his commitment to Penn State
Matt Sieg has received offers from Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, USC, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Iowa and Wisconsin, among others. Penn State offered Sieg last fall and has maintained close ties ever since.
"I love Penn State," Sieg told Lions247. "The staff always makes me feel at home and it's a great place."
Penn State cornerback coach Terry Smith played a key part in the school's pursuit of Sieg, while James Franklin and other coaching staff members also remained high on the prospect.
“They were first to enter my recruitment and haven’t let up since jumping in," Sieg told On3. "I feel a genuine connection from everyone there. It’s also close to home for us and family is big for me. My whole family will be able to watch me play which I think will be awesome.”
Despite starting his junior season with a thumb injury, Matt Sieg has fully recovered and is back on the field. He is expected to make another visit to Penn State for its 'White Out' matchup against Washington on Nov. 9.
