Four-star WR Malachi Toney confirms game-day trip to Alabama for SEC blockbuster against Georgia

Four-star wide receiver Malachi Toney hit the headlines last year when he chose Miami over Ohio State, Florida State, Alabama, Auburn and some other programs. The prospect's reclassification to the Hurricanes 2025 class became a matter of happiness for the school last week, but he gave a blow to the Miami fans by revealing his upcoming Alabama visit on Monday.

Toney will visit Kalen DeBoer's program this weekend for Alabama's game against Georgia, marking his first known visit to Tuscaloosa for a game. He confirmed the news on X, writing,

"I will be at the UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA this weekend 🐘🐘."

Interestingly, before announcing his Alabama visit, Toney posted two emojis, which triggered his potential interest in the Crimson Tide.

"🐘😳," Toney tweeted.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound prospect attends American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida, where he caught 35 passes for 621 yards and eight touchdowns as a freshman.

After pushing his school to a Florida 2M state title last season, he is excelling this year as well. Throughout five games this season, he has pulled in 33 receptions for 490 yards and seven touchdowns.

Will Malachi Toney flip from Miami?

Miami's regular season is going well with 4-0, but Malachi Toney's upcoming Alabama visit can take a toll on the Hurricanes' 2025 class.

Besides Alabama, the Florida State Seminoles have been involved in his recruitment, according to Inside the U. Meanwhile, On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gives Ohio State a 54.0% chance of securing his commitment while giving in-state Florida State a 24.8% potential.

Despite these updates, Toney has shown loyalty to Miami and has attended several games this season, including the Hurricanes’ impressive 56-9 victory over Florida A&M on Sept. 7. In an interview with CaneSport, he expressed satisfaction with his experiences in Coral Gables, saying,

“[Receivers coach] Kevin Beard told me that’s what they were going to do, so that’s what I expected them to do. He tells me what they do day in and day out, so that really wasn’t a surprise.”

Recruitment can be a fickle affair, and for a highly sought-after player like Malachi Toney, the potential for a flip always looms. Miami boasts 22 committed players in its 2025 class, ranking No. 13 nationally. Let's see if the Hurricanes can retain Toney's pledge.
