"FSU sucks, not surprising": Fans react to four-star WR CJ Wiley's decommitment from the Seminoles
Four-star wide receiver CJ Wiley decommitted from Florida State on Sunday afternoon. The standout prospect from Milton High School in Georgia committed to Mike Norvell's school over the LSU Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs on Jan. 24.
Wiley's departure came after Florida State’s fourth consecutive loss, a 36-14 defeat to Miami in Week 9. The Seminoles are 1-7 so far, and their only victory this season was a narrow 14-9 win over California on Sept. 21.
This downward trend has cast doubt on Norvell’s leadership as he enters his fifth season with the program.
Fans have grown frustrated with the lack of progress and appear to understand Wiley’s choice.
"FSU sucks, not surprising," a fan wrote.
"I get the feeling this may be the first of many, FSU will remain a transfer portal team," another person wrote.
"Everyone will decomitt from FSU until a new head coach and program is in place," one fan posted.
Last month, four-star recruits Javion Hilson and Myron Charles also decommitted from Florida State, and just weeks ago, four-star pass-catchers Malik Clark and Daylan McCutcheon followed suit. With Wiley's decommitment, the Seminoles now hold only 11 pledges in this cycle.
"Great decision young man," one X user wrote.
"Too talented to go to that dumpster fire," one fan said.
Let's look at more reactions to this discussion.
Florida's cycle still features blue-chip prospects like interior offensive lineman Solomon Thomas, running back Byron Louis and defensive lineman Kevin Wynn. Also in are quarterback Tramell Jones and interior offensive lineman Peyton Joseph, among others.
However, given the school's poor season, it will be hard to keep these players on board.
Which program is in the race for CJ Wiley's commitment?
CJ Wiley surprised many when he initially committed to Florida State in June. At the time, Georgia seemed the clear frontrunner for his pledge, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Last month, On3’s director of recruiting, Chad Simmons, noted that Kirby Smart's program has been actively pursuing Wiley by pushing as hard as any other program. With his recruitment reopened, the Bulldogs hold an 82.3% likelihood of securing Wiley’s commitment, according to the RPM.
Georgia's 2025 class ranks No. 2 in the Southeastern Conference with 24 committed players, and CJ Wiley will be a great addition to the promising room. He is ranked by On3 as the nation's No. 81 overall prospect, the No. 12 wide receiver in the 2025 class and the No. 10 recruit in Georgia.
