"Had an amazing visit": Three-star WR Ben Whitver praises Marcus Freeman's Notre Dame for top-notch hospitality
Three-star wide receiver Ben Whitver is catching the eyes of elite college programs due to his junior season performances. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound standout from Powhatan High School in Virginia has already attended several college games this season, with one of his most notable visits being to Notre Dame.
On Saturday, Whitver was invited to Notre Dame’s game against Miami (Ohio) by recruiting analyst Deland McCullough II and wide receivers coach Mike Brown. The Fighting Irish cruised to a 28-3 victory, and the prospect expressed his excitement on X, thanking coach Marcus Freeman and his coaching staff for the experience.
"Had an amazing visit @NDFootball. Thank you @DMAC_II and @Im_MikeB for the invite. And the hospitality from the entire staff! @Marcus_Freeman1 @dhglover @POWHS_Football," Whitver wrote.
Notre Dame has yet to extend an official offer to Whitver, but his incredible play during the 2024 season suggests it may only be a matter of time. In Powhatan’s 46-13 season opener win against Mechanicsville on Sept. 9, he recorded 125 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Despite a Week 2 loss to Manchester, the wide receiver continued his impressive form by posting 108 yards and another touchdown on four catches. Through the first three games of the season, he has totaled nine receptions for 243 yards and three receiving touchdowns, along with a rushing touchdown, bringing his all-purpose yards to 371.
Ben Whitver is ranked by Rivals as the No. 70 wide receiver in the 2026 class and the No. 16 prospect in Virginia.
Ben Whitver remains high on Penn State
Ben Whitver's relationship with Penn State has grown steadily since he received an offer from the program on May 20. Following the offer, he attended the Nittany Lions' camp on June 9 and returned for an unofficial visit on July 26.
Whitver was also present on Sept. 7 when Penn State hosted a number of recruits for their first home game of the season against Bowling Green.
"The visit was really good,” Whitver told Rivals. “I loved the hospitality from the whole staff. It's always great to talk with coach (Marques) Hagans. I also got to talk with coach (James) Franklin for a bit on the field. Always great being back in Happy Valley.”
Besides Whitver, other notable recruits attending the game included 2027 wide receivers Myles McAfee and Javien Robinson and 2026 cornerbacks Jaymier Austin and Demari Clemons.
Penn State has six committed players to its 2026 class, ranking No. 2 in the nation. The school has a 39.7% chance of securing Ben Whitver's commitment.
