"He loves Michigan": 2026 class prospect RB Savion Hiter's mentor sheds light on their latest official visit
Four-star running back Savion Hiter from Woodberry Forest, Virginia, is one of the most promising players in the 2026 class. With offers pouring in from numerous top-tier programs, he is meticulously weighing his options. This past weekend, he visited Michigan for the BBQ at The Big House, accompanied by his parents and mentor, Adam McCann.
Hiter's visit to Ann Arbor was a multi-day event, and McCann couldn't help but commend the unity and dedication of coach Sherrone Moore's program. From the aligned weights to the shared mission and goals, the entire Wolverines staff left a significant impression on the 5-foot-11, 182-pound recruit.
"He loves it," McCann told On3. "He was smiling. All the staff in the building know his name. Everyone was geeked about him being there. It was like a family reunion with that staff.”
Running backs coach Tony Alford, who extended an offer to Savion Hiter in March and hosted him for a visit in April, made a lasting impression by prioritizing the RB throughout the recruitment process. McCann praised Alford's teaching methods and his respectful treatment of every family, regardless of their position on his recruiting board.
Coach Moore's involvement in the visit also stood out.
"He wants Savion really bad, but he also cares about his process," McCann said. "I was expecting him to squeeze Savion, but he just answered questions and gave us data and facts. He has a lot of respect in my book."
The visit provided Hiter and his entourage with a comprehensive view of the Michigan program, from the coaching staff and strength and conditioning team to the NIL opportunities and locker room upgrades. It seems McCann believes Hiter would be an excellent fit at Michigan. The program boasts commitments from Brady Hart and Brody Jennings in the 2026 class.
Savion Hiter is ranked as the No. 111 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 9 running back in the 2026 class and the No. 4 recruit in Virginia by 247 Sports. On3 ranks him as the No. 45 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 4 running back in the class and the No. 2 recruit in the state.
What will Savion Hiter look for before giving his commitment?
Savion Hiter holds offers from programs such as Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Florida State and Texas, among others. He is taking his time in making his college decision, but he has a clear vision of what will guide his final choice.
“What matters most to me is how I fit in at a school, how much I like it, the bond that I have with the coaches and how much they like me,” Hiter told On3.
Hiter's priorities extend beyond just his fit with the program.
“It’s important for me to be at a school where I’m going to be used and developed as a running back,” Hiter told Sports Illustrated. “Where I can get my degree but also be prepared for the next level, which God willing is the NFL.”
As of now, the Virginia Cavaliers are leading the race for his recruitment with a 19.5% chance of landing him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Ohio State follows closely with a 17.1% chance, Georgia at 14.6% and Michigan at 12.2%.
Savion Hiter's journey began at Louisa County High School, where he excelled as a freshman before transferring to Woodberry Forest School. As a sophomore, he rushed for 1,060 yards on 150 carries and scored 10 touchdowns, while also adding five receptions for 91 yards and another touchdown.
