"He's just the total package": Auburn commit Deuce Knight's HS coach raves about four-star QB

Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight has been in hot discussion due to his recent flip from Notre Dame to Auburn. Besides his recruitment buzz, he is a prized signal-caller for George County High School in Lucedale, Mississippi.

Knight's ability to command the offense and make plays when it counts has made him an invaluable asset for George County’s football program. On Senior Night, Rebels coach James Ray reflected on Knight's potential.

"This dude's going to be successful no matter what he does, whether it's in football or in life," Ray told Auburn Undercover. "He's just the total package."

The 6-foot-4.5, 205-pound prospect has been the backbone of the Rebels since his freshman year, stepping in late in the season to lead the team to the playoffs.

"It was sad, Senior Night. Seeing him walk out as a senior, Deuce has been starting for us for four years," Ray said. "You get used to seeing him and the thought that's not going to be next year, it's not a very happy thought. But with Deuce, we know we've always got a shot."

As a senior, Deuce Knight has continued to deliver phenomenal performances, despite battling with injuries. Last Friday, he led his team to a thrilling 51-41 victory over Hancock, recording 329 yards and three touchdowns.

Deuce Knight opens up about his progress

During his junior year, Deuce Knight split his time between Lipscomb Academy in Tennessee and George County High School in Mississippi, which helped him refine his skills. Reflecting on his progress, the quarterback noted a marked improvement in his play.

"I felt like in my sophomore season, I left the pocket quick – as soon as any pressure came," Knight told Mike Singer of BlueandGold. "Also, I was trying to make more sound throws – not just making off-balanced throws when I don’t have to do that."

This self-awareness and focus on improving his mechanics have paid off. In just five games of his senior season, Knight has accumulated an impressive 1,202 total yards and 15 touchdowns. He knows that being able to run is only one part of the equation and has worked hard to prove that he can be just as effective from the pocket.

"Everyone knows I can run. But can I sit there and make the throws? And I know I can do that. I’m glad I got to show people that."

Deuce Knight and the Rebels are going to face West Harrison on Friday.
