How Carlos Boozer's twin sons Cayden and Cameron Boozer helped save the life of their elder brother
Cayden Boozer and Cameron Boozer are not only two of the best high school basketball players in the country, but they are also life savers. The Boozer twins were responsible for saving their older brother, Carmani Boozer's life more than 15 years ago.
Carmani is Carlos and CeCe Boozer's firstborn child. During CeCe's pregnancy, the couple learned that their son had sickle cell disease, a blood disorder that can cause severe pain and even death. However, there was a way to cure the disease. It required a bone marrow transplant, albeit from a sibling.
Once Cameron and Cayden were born through IVF, doctors got the required stem cells from their umbilical cords. However, the treatment had huge risks for Carmani as he could've lost his life in the process. The Boozer family went with it and fortunately, the oldest Boozer son survived the surgery.
Carmani was fully cured and has been free of the disease since then. It is a remarkable story that will feature on ESPN as a documentary, titled "Blood Brothers."
The Boozer twins play their high school basketball at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, whereas Carmani plays baseball at Monsignor Edward Pace High School.
Carmani Boozer was part of Cayden and Cameron Boozer's college commitment video
Cayden Boozer and Cameron Boozer announced their commitment to the Duke Blue Devils on Friday. The duo chose the Jon Scheyer-led team over other top programs such as Miami and Florida. The announcement came via a video they shared on their Instagram accounts. Carmani Boozer, the twins' older brother, also featured in the video.
The video showcased the twins' life so far and it comprised various clips of them throughout their childhood.
"I'm proud of them. They've worked their butts off for this moment," former NBA player and the twins' father, Carlos Boozer, told ESPN. "Really excited that they took their time. Decided to play together in college, which is amazing. They both complement each other so well. They made the best decision for them. Me and Mom couldn't be any prouder."
