On Friday, top-ranked Mater Dei will begin its CIF Southern Section Trinity League schedule by facing Santa Margarita on the road. Despite Mater Dei holding the No. 1 spot in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Top 25 national high school football rankings, Santa Margarita has the advantage of playing at home for this contest.
The Trinity League is part of the CIF Southern Section and comprises seven schools.
Orange County is the home of six of the schools while one is in Los Angeles County. The adding of Orange Lutheran as the first-ever non-Catholic member of the league took place in 2006, which took diversity to a conference that was Catholic-dominated.

Mater Dei will seek to expand their absolute run over Santa Margarita when the teams meet this Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Monarchs have been the winners of their last 10 battles with the Eagles and they are hoping to keep their perfect record intact.
After a week off, both squads are ready to hit the field, with Mater Dei fresh off a statement win. In their previous game, the Monarchs faced St. Frances Academy, a fellow top-ranked team, and secured a 25-14 victory.
Mater Dei took control early, holding a 22-0 lead by the third quarter and never let St. Frances fully recover. Key touchdowns were delivered by Marcus Harris, Trenton Dunn and Tomuhini Topui. Defensively, Nasir Wyatt led the charge, forcing two critical fumbles.
As for Santa Margarita, they are coming to this meeting after being defeated with a close score (14-13) by Leuzinger. In spite of the fact that they had 156 yards more than their opponent, the Eagles failed to make use of that chance.
