Hugh Freeze's Auburn lands commitment from Four-star DB Anquon Fegans to the class of 2025
Four-star safety Anquon Fegans, from Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama, has committed to Auburn's 2025 recruiting class. He announced his decision during a ceremony in Birmingham on Monday, where he chose coach Hugh Freeze's program over Georgia, LSU, Alabama and Clemson, among others.
Fegans initially committed to USC on May 7, 2023, but reopened his recruitment a few months later in August. He ultimately decided to stay closer to home.
“I mean, why not stay home and build something special in this state,” Fegans told Auburn Live. “The best stay home.”
Fegans has a long-standing relationship with Auburn safety coach Charles Kelly, who has known the prospect since he was in the eighth grade. This connection, along with his belief in Coach Freeze's capabilities, heavily influenced his choice.
“Coach Freeze can get Auburn back to the top. He is going to take the program very far. He knows his X’s and O’s, he is very relatable and he is a phenomenal person. Coach Freeze is going to do big things,” said Fegans.
Fegans is the No. 21 commitment in Auburn's 2025 class and No. 2 of the day, following four-star athlete Derick Smith. This announcement signified the seventh pledge resulting from Auburn's "Big Cat Weekend" recruiting event, which saw several blue-chip prospects committing to the program.
Fegans is the second player from his high school to commit to Auburn’s 2025 class. His older brother, TreQuon, signed with Alabama in 2022 but later transferred to USC. Another brother, Antwon Fegans Jr., was a three-star recruit in the class of 2020 who played at Arkansas State and Northwestern State before transferring to Auburn this spring.
What will Anquon Fegans bring to Auburn?
Standing at 6-feet and a half tall, weighing 185 pounds, Fegans is regarded as one of the most polished defensive backs in the 2025 recruiting class. He was primarily utilized as a deep safety during his high school career, but has also proven his ability to play as a nickel defender. His athleticism extends to special teams, where he can show value in both kick and punt coverage.
According to 247 Sports' director of scouting Andrew Ivins, Fegans possesses most of the skills required to become a multi-year contributor in the back seven at a top 25 program. Auburn Live's analyst, Cole Pinkston, also discussed his readiness, stating that he is the most SEC-ready prospect in Auburn’s 2025 class.
According to On3, Fegans is the No. 78 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 5 safety in the 2025 class and the No. 3 recruit in Alabama. 247 Sports ranks him as the No. 98 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 9 safety in the class and the No. 9 recruit in the state.
In his junior season, Fegans recorded 59 tackles and seven interceptions, while his sophomore year saw him named a MaxPreps Sophomore All-American with nine interceptions and 67 tackles in 14 games. As a freshman, he was a MaxPreps Freshman All-American who tallied 50 tackles and two interceptions.
