“I get five to 12 phone calls a day inquiring about him": Bradley Gompers' HS coach reflects on four-star Duke commit's recruitment offers
Just a month ago, Bradley Gompers earned a four-star ranking from 247Sports, while other outlets still list him as a three-star prospect. However, his recruitment has skyrocketed, with college programs across the country vying for a chance to flip his commitment from Duke.
Gompers committed to Manny Diaz's program back in June. However, his rise in prominence has meant a lot of phone calls for his high school coach, Ryan Lehmeier. Last week, Lehmeier spoke with Pittsburgh Union Progress to discuss the surge in Gompers' recruitment, saying,
“Everyone from Florida to California is calling about that dude. I get five to 12 phone calls a day inquiring about him. I don’t think I’ve ever seen something like that for a committed kid.”
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound prospect is listed at both tight end and linebacker, but he is likely to play linebacker in college. According to MaxPreps, he has recorded 558 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, while contributing on defense with 49 tackles (32 solo and 17 assisted), seven tackles for losses, two sacks and one interception in eight games this season.
Gompers’ rise comes after a junior season in which he missed significant time due to injury. Now fully healthy in his senior season, his name is climbing up recruiting boards. His coach also weighed on Gompers’ mental game.
“He’s intelligent and he’s uber smart,” Lehmeier added. “He can carry on football schematic conversations with coaches and understands coverage adjustments. He’s a really high level thinker and exceptionally talented. He’s very long, and can bend at the knees, hips and ankles really well.”
Bradley Gompers is ranked by the On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 248 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 9 athlete in the 2025 class and the No. 7 recruit in Pennsylvania.
Miami is the latest school to offer Bradley Gompers
Bradley Gompers has received more than 20 offers so far, most of which came in the last two months. He received his latest offer from Miami linebacker coach Derek Nicholson on Wednesday.
The prospect shared the news on X:
"After a conversation with @CoachDNic I’m excited to receive an offer from @CanesFootball!!"
Bradley Gompers revealed to Pittsburgh Union Progress that Penn State and Michigan had been recruiting him heavily. However, Miami will also be a name to watch in the upcoming days.
The Hurricanes have 22 commits in the 2025 class, ranking No. 11 in the nation. The class already holds the commitments of two linebackers: four-star prospect Gavin Nix from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida and three-star Ezekiel Marcelin from Miami Central in Miami, Florida.
