“I was HIM in HS”: Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa smiles ear to ear after being gifted high school jersey for Christmas
Tua Tagovailoa, the Miami Dolphins' starting quarterback, was one of the best high school players in history. The then five-star quarterback played at St. Louis High School and led them to an overall record of 15-7 in two seasons. He received offers from USC, Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M and Oregon.
Tagovailoa and the Dolphins are already in the Christmas spirit and the quarterback received his high school jersey as a gift. Miami shared the video on Instagram and Tagovailoa was naturally delighted to receive the gift.
"I'm wearing it because I was HIM in high school," Tagovailoa said while receiving the jersey, as per SportsCenter's Instagram.
Tagovailoa was one of the best players in the Class of 2017. He chose to play his college football in Tuscaloosa after committing to the program on May 2, 2016. He went on to become the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The 26-year-old QB was rated as a five-star athlete by both On3 and 247Sports and was the 36th-ranked overall recruit in the country, as per On3. He was also the third-best quarterback in the Class of 2017 and was the best overall prospect from the state of Hawaii.
How good was Tua Tagovailoa in high school?
Miami Dolphins' star quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa is one of the best signal-callers in the NFL. The youngster is a part of one of the best offenses in the league and has been a consistent performer for his team.
The quarterback had a tremendous high school career. He tallied 5,515 yards and 57 touchdowns on a 65.2% completion rate in two seasons with the St. Louis Crusaders.
He racked up 2,583 yards and 33 touchdowns as a sophomore in high school and bettered that next season with 2,932 yards and 24 touchdowns. Tagovailoa also accumulated 1,057 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns during that time.
The QB joined the Alabama Crimson Tide after his junior year and became a backup QB to the current Philadelphia Eagles' QB Jalen Hurts. He took over from Hurts in 2018 and produced an amazing season for them, tallying 3,966 yards and 43 touchdowns while throwing just six interceptions.
Since coming into the league, Tua Tagovailoa has helped Miami to a 37-24 record while throwing 99 touchdowns and 44 interceptions.
