"I should have left her in Oklahoma": No. 1 prospect Aaliyah Chavez's mother shares goofy video of daughter post Oklahoma Sooners visit
The No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2025, Aaliyah Chavez, and her mother Andrea Chavez are very active on social media. While Andrea and her mother post her basketball highlights, the latter also keeps the followers updated with pictures of her family on Instagram.
This time, she took to Instagram to share a goofy video of Aaliyah Chavez as she is seen dancing after her visit to the Oklahoma Sooners. Check out the video below:
"Current #seniorsunday mood. I should have left her in Oklahoma," she captioned her Instagram story.
On Oct. 3, Aaliyah Chavez also shared a fun transition reel from Monterey High School's media day.
The Lubbock, Texas native has offers from top colleges, including Texas Tech, LSU, South Carolina, Oklahoma and more. While it is usually her mother that puts an end to any speculation about Chavez's future, this time it was the 5-foot-9 point guard who took to X to upload a list of her top 10 colleges. She also said that she has not committed to any program:
"I just want to thank all the coaches for their time invested into recruiting me on this journey. After much consideration me and my family have come down to a list of my top 10 schools," she wrote.
However, according to On3's recruitment prediction machine, Oklahoma has the highest chance of recruiting Chavez (51.6%). They are followed by Texas Tech with a 16% prediction, LSU with an 11.4% chance and South Carolina with just a 1% possibility to recruit Aaliyah Chavez.
How has Aaliyah Chavez performed in high school?
The 2023-24 Texas Girls’ Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year has a stellar record for her high school. In her freshman year, Chavez averaged 25.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game while appearing in 39 games.
In her sophomore year, Chavez averaged 30 ppg, 5.2 apg, 7.2 rpg and 3.1 spg while playing 34 matches. However, in the last season, she took her performances up a notch as she averaged a double-double, scoring 37.8 points, grabbing 10.1 rebounds, dishing out 4.4 assists, combined with 3.5 steals.
She also holds the record for the highest FG percentage (49%), blocks per game (0.9), FT percentage (91%) and three-point FG percentage (41%) in Monterey High School.
