"I used to have terrible body language": When BYU commit AJ Dybantsa opened up about his immaturity in his early high school hooping days
AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 high school boys basketball prospect in the Class of 2025, spoke about his early high school days and how he learned from his mistakes.
In a video uploaded by Says Who Sports three months ago, the Utah Prep small forward, who committed to the BYU Cougars on Tuesday, talked about a learning moment in his career.
"I don't think it was anything major, but there's probably definitely been a moment. ... Like, I used to have terrible body language," Dybantsa said (Timestamp: 14:30). "(My dad) used to pull me outside and be like, 'Fix your body language. You look crazy.'"
When asked for examples, Dybantsa talked about reacting to missed shots or bad calls.
"I would just go all crazy and just look very immature," Dybantsa said.
The 6-foot-9 forward also talked about how he learned from his mistakes when playing the game (Timestamp: 13:40):
"Definitely, just watch film 'cause film doesn't lie," Dybantsa said. "I watch a lot of film on the mistakes and the good, and you just try to turn those mistakes into positives and it'll really just get you better."
AJ Dybantsa's final four list of colleges included Alabama, North Carolina, BYU and Kentucky. However, he announced his decision to join BYU on Tuesday on ESPN.
AJ Dybantsa talks about sacrifices
AJ Dybantsa committed to BYU while sitting with his father, Ace Dybantsa, and ESPN's Stephen A. Smith. He talked about the sacrifices his family made when he moved to Utah.
"My older sister Samar, my younger sister Jasmyn and my dad, like, you know, just making countless sacrifices like moving to Utah (from the Boston area), leaving my sisters at home, so, I mean, it's just for the bigger picture, though," Dybantsa said (Timestamp: 1:29).
The Cougars have three commitments: AJ Dybantsa, Xavion Staton and Chamberlain Burgess.
