"I’ve always been solid.. I’m going to Notre Dame": 4-Star QB Deuce Knight reaffirms his commitment to Notre Dame

Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight committed to Notre Dame's 2025 recruiting class last September. Despite ongoing rumors suggesting that he might flip his pledge, Knight remained firm in his decision to join Marcus Freeman's program.

Knight reiterated his loyalty to Notre Dame in a phone interview with Blue & Gold on July 9.

“I’ve always been solid..Like I’ve said, at the end of the day, I feel like it’s business, so I don’t want to shut anything down. But I’m going to Notre Dame, though,” Knight said.

His commitment to Notre Dame was strengthened during his official visit to the program from June 14-16. He also attended a camp earlier that week, worked out with other recruits and reinforced his strong relationship with the coaching staff.

“It’s hard to strengthen our relationship because it’s already so strong. Coach G — that’s my dog. I talk to him all the time,” Knight added.

Beyond solidifying his commitment, the Elite 11 MVP has also been involved in recruitment efforts for Notre Dame. He took to X on Wednesday to encourage 2025 wide receiver Derek Meadows of Las Vegas to join the Irish.

Knight is currently ranked by On3 as the No. 28 overall player, the No. 4 quarterback nationally and the No. 2 prospect in Mississippi. Meanwhile, 247 Sports placed him as the No. 34 overall player, the No. 5 quarterback nationally and the No. 2 prospect in the state.

He is the younger brother of former Indiana Hoosiers wide receiver Ty Fryfogle.

Can Ole Miss flip Deuce Knight?

The Fighting Irish might have a strong hold on Knight, but his recruitment is far from over and Ole Miss is not giving up. The Rebels are keeping their options open and maintaining communication with the signal-caller, as they continue to search for quarterbacks in the class. According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Ole Miss has a 27.9% chance of flipping Knight’s commitment.

“I just keep talking to them. They don’t really talk much about OV plans or anything,” Knight told On3 on July 10. “They just keep the line of communication open, they just stay with me. Ole Miss isn’t far so I can get up there whenever I want.”

Knight transferred to Lipscomb Academy in Tennessee at the beginning of his junior year. He later returned to George County where he completed 141 of 265 passes for 2,047 yards with 17 touchdowns and two interceptions, while rushing for 494 yards and 11 touchdowns on 99 carries.

Aside from football, he also excelled in track and field as well as basketball. He was a two-time state champion in the long jump—having won the Mississippi 5A meet as a sophomore and the Mississippi 6A meet as a junior.
